  • Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program, Apply by Fri. 10/9

    The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories. Selected students participate as interns appointed at one of 17 participating DOE laboratories/facilities. They perform research, under the guidance of laboratory staff scientists or engineers, on projects supporting the DOE mission.

    Applications for the SULI program are solicited annually for three separate internship terms. Internship appointments are 10 weeks in duration for the Summer Term (May through August) or 16 weeks in duration for the Fall (August through December) and Spring (January through May) Terms.

  • Gallery 400 Internships and Employment Opportunities, Apply by 4/4

    The Gallery 400 internship program welcomes students and recent graduates who wish to broaden their education and professional experience by working at one of the nation’s most vibrant university galleries, showcasing work at the leading edge of contemporary art, architecture, and design. Under the guidance of gallery staff, interns assist in routine work that ranges from special projects and research to clerical support.

    Internships require a commitment of 15-20 hours per week and are typically a semester in length. A major in art history or fine art is not required. All internships are unpaid.

    Internships include: Archive / Website, Communications, Community Engagement, Curatorial, Development, Exhibition Preparation, Graphic Design, Photography, and Video Archive.

  • Write for UIC News!

    UIC News is seeking student contributors to write stories for our weekly Student Voice page. We will occasionally email story ideas to our contributors to select from on a first-come, first-served basis. We also accept story ideas and submissions from contributors.

    UIC News is also accepting applications for two interns to add a student voice to its work in news and social media for the fall semester. It's a great opportunity to gain experience writing for print and online, including news and feature writing, video and social media. Applicants should have experience in writing for publications (online or print) and an interest in journalism. Video and photography skills are a plus. Interns must enroll in an internship course (in the English department or LAS) for elective credit.

    We will also be accepting applications for weekly bloggers to share their experiences as UIC students starting over the summer or fall semester. Bloggers are required to post once per week and are paid $50 per month. View examples at http://iam.uic.edu

  • UIC Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE) Summer Program, Apply by 7/1

    What is SISE?

    The Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE) is a two-week intensive workshop and lecture series for students and professionals interested in the title subjects: sustainability and energy. From August 6-20, a diverse body of participants will converge on the UIC campus and immerse itself in a broad spectrum of topics in energy and sustainable energy through daily presentations & panel discussions, collaborative research projects and mentoring, site tours of leading energy facilities in Chicago, and networking opportunities with energy & entrepreneurial leaders. The issues presented will be of interest to scientists, economists, political scientists, urban planners, engineers, architects, and entrepreneurs. This experience leaves graduates of the SISE program with a firm foundation for future careers in sustainability and energy, and inspires them to lead the next generation as thoughtful and informed global citizens.

    SISE is now accepting applications.

    Admission into the program is highly competitive. Only 50 participants will be accepted from a pool of national applicants. Applicants accepted into the program can expect to receive receive lodging support for the duration of the 2-week program and some meals on weekdays. Many will receive partial support for travel costs. Senior-level undergraduates (as of the fall of 2014), graduate students, and professionals working in the fields of sustainability and energy who are living, working, or studying in the United States are eligible to apply. An online application form, a resume, and three letters of reference are required. Applications will be accepted through July 1, 2014. More information is provided on the SISE website.

  • Urban Ecology Field Lab - Summer Field Museum program, Apply by 3/20

    This 8-week interdisciplinary course will train students in the social and ecological methods that will prepare them to conduct their own urban ecology research project in partnership with a local CBO and land management/public policy agency.     This will be a great opportunity for students to gain hands-on training and research experience.  Our aim is to recruit upper level undergraduates and early graduate students with some experience/coursework in the social and ecological sciences.

  • Chicago Academic Medicine Summer Program II, Apply by 2/24

    CAMP II is an eight-week commuter program where students learn to conduct primary research in a laboratory with a University of Chicago faculty mentor. Participants will be selected either following successful completion of CAMP I or through previous participation in a similar summer pre-medical training program. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of the ethics of research, the basics of biostatistics, and the conduct of biomedical research.CAMP II also provides an enhanced focus on medical school application processes to support future success. Participants will engage in MCAT preparation coursework and re-visit the elements of personal statement writing and interviewing skills. This experience is available to a cohort of participants who are underrepresented in the medical education community, and is intended for freshmen or sophomores.

    Metropolitan Farms is a commercial scale urban farm located in West Humboldt Park (4250 W Chicago Ave) which has begun operations this summer 2015. We are now looking forward to building the business and need help to make it a success!

    The farm grows premium quality, chemical free, produce and fish by means of a large aquaponic system located in a controlled environment greenhouse. These systems are some of the most advanced agricultural production systems available today. Metropolitan Farms represents a significant step forward in growing good, fresh food close to market.

    Interns will get valuable training and experience at a cutting edge urban farm!

    The UIC Office of Sustainability is offering a new internship program this summer with several positions available for paid and unpaid interns.
    The program consists of:
    1. Internship placement at a UIC department
    2. Weekly seminars and field outings that cover a range of educational and skill building topics
    3. Leadership development and project management experience
    Students will be assigned to individual internship projects and will participate in weekly seminars about sustainability and professional development topics with other members of the cohort.
    The internships are 15 hours per week between June 2nd and August 8th.
    The internship placement opportunities include:
    Bike UIC Intern: This intern will implement the bike plan and promote bicycle transport in the campus community.
    Green Event Intern: This intern will help promote sustainable event planning and waste reduction at campus events.
    Green Laundry Intern: This intern will work with Campus Housing to make drying racks available to students to reduce energy consumption.
    Food Recovery Intern: This intern will work with UIC Campus Dining Services to reduce food waste at UIC cafeterias and donate extra food to local food pantries.
    Move Out Waste Intern: This intern will work with Campus Housing to analyze the waste accumulated from move out and move in days and develop a waste reduction plan.
    Recycling Intern: This intern will work with various UIC departments to analyze recycling patterns and ensure recycling infrastructure is functional.
    Water Management Intern: This intern will work with Campus Utilities to analyze water use through various outlets and develop a waste reduction plan.

    The American Red Cross invites exceptional undergraduate and graduate students from many diverse backgrounds to join us in a variety of internship programs that introduce young leaders to the mission of the Red Cross. Our engaging internship programs give students real-world work experience by involving them in projects critical to the day-to-day work of our organization.

    While there are some internship opportunities available during the school year, the majority of our internships are offered during our summer program.     The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is pleased to announce the 2017 Introduction to Cancer Research Careers (ICRC) Program.  ICRC encourages individuals from populations underrepresented in science or financially disadvantaged backgrounds to seek internship opportunities at the NCI.  Successful ICRC applicants will take part in a 2-day sponsored campus visit to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the various scientist-in-training programs, participate in laboratory tours, and interview for either a summer or post-baccalaureate (1-year) internship.  Participants selected for internships will receive a monthly stipend, round-trip travel, and a summer housing subsidy.  Housing for the interns is not included, however, a list of housing resources will be provided.

The studies the intern would be assisting with primarily focus on Hispanic breast cancer patients' cultural and psychosocial experiences in order to reduce disparities in cancer outcomes, and improve treatment self-management following active breast cancer treatment.

    This intern would assist with various tasks in support of multiple studies with Hispanic breast cancer patients. Some of the tasks include reviewing patient records, screening, recruiting, consenting and completing assessments with patients, managing and aiding in the analysis of data, translating study materials into Spanish, and aiding in the development and implementation of an eHealth intervention.

    Interested students would need to commit to coming into the lab for two to three days per week (12 hours weekly) for a period of at least six months. Spoken and written fluency in Spanish is required; having research, psychological, social and/or medical interests is preferred. Students could also benefit from receiving academic credit from their internship.     The internship will be from May 19 - August 15, 2014. Summer interns will be expected to work 20 hours a week, from 9am-1pm Monday through Friday, and will receive a stipend of $2,400.      The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is pleased to announce the 2016 Introduction to Cancer Research Careers (ICRC) Program.  ICRC encourages individuals from populations underrepresented in science or financially disadvantaged backgrounds to seek internship opportunities at the NCI.  Successful ICRC applicants will take part in a 2-day sponsored campus visit to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the various scientist-in-training programs, participate in laboratory tours, and interview for either a summer or post-baccalaureate (1-year) internship.  Participants selected for internships will receive a monthly stipend, round-trip travel, and a summer housing subsidy.  Housing for the interns is not included, however, a list of housing resources will be provided.

  • Internship in Medical Social Sciences

    We are looking for a volunteer intern to join our research team in assisting with a research project at the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. This opportunity would be a great fit for anyone interested in pursuing medical school or graduate programs in psychology, behavioral health, or public health. Through this internship, you will gain hands-on experience working with experts in the field, and you will have access to Northwestern’s state-of-the art research facilities. You will also have the chance to develop and refine your research skills.

    The study with which the intern would be assisting are part of the Biopsychosocial Mechanisms and Health Outcomes Program.  The primary project for which we currently need volunteers involves a technology-based psychosocial intervention for men with advanced prostate cancer. 

    The intern will assist with various tasks in support of the study, including:

    Reviewing patient medical records (usually electronic) Screening these records for participant eligibility Sending letters and making phone calls to recruit potential participants Conducting phone screeners potential participants Making follow-up calls Preparing study materials (i.e. paper assessment forms, saliva sample kits, etc.) Data extraction from participant medical charts Other required data entry Miscellaneous tasks as needed

    Interested individuals must commit 12 hours per week, which can be split among 2 or 3 days, depending on your schedule.  We request that you make a commitment of at least 6 months for this position. Please note that you will be working on-site in our research office, located in the Streeterville area of Chicago. Interest in psychological, social and/or medical research is preferred; prior experience working with cancer patients is ideal. Spanish language skills are also preferred but not required.     The Art Institute of Chicago has just launched a new student opportunity, the Andrew W. Mellon Summer Academy and Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship. This program is funded by the Mellon foundation and seeks to begin to diversify the pipeline in the arts by focusing on the curatorial profession in US museums. Similar programs will take place at five partner museums across the country. This is an exceptional opportunity for motivated undergraduates who have an interest in curatorial work or in finding out more about professions in art museums.
     
    The ideal student applicant will be a rising sophomore or junior at the end of this school year, although we also encourage applications from non-traditional students who may be in school for more than 4 years.
