  • LAS 289 Fall Internship Proposal Form

    LAS 289 is a variable credit hour course.  For every 60 hours at your internship, you can earn 1 credit, 120 hours earns two credits and 180+ hours earns three credits.  There is also a monthly seminar attached to this course (syllabi attached). Ms. Robin B. Hursey will be offering the monthly seminars on Wednesday's on 9/21, 10/19 and 11/16 at 3-4:30pm OR on Thursday's on 9/22, 10/20 and11/17 at 3:30-5pm. There are only 20 seats available in each seminar, so you should submit your proposal as soon as possible.

    If you have secured a fall internship and would like to earn elective credit for your internship you will need to complete the form on-line (it must be typed), print and then call Ms. Hursey's office to schedule an appointment, 312-996-0425, for approval.

  • Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) Recruiting Fall Interns

    For cultural explorers, Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) creates rich connections and celebrates the social life of ideas by curating live events that enable audiences to see the world differently.

    Currently CHF is recruiting fall interns for the Marketing, Development, Programing, Production and Web/Multi-Media departments. Attached is the internship application form and description internships available this fall session.    

    Interns are a vital component of the staff, CHF offers several project-based internships during three internship sessions (summer/fall/spring). The internship program requires a commitment of 14-21 hours a week for 3 to 9 months (a 9 month internship is preferred, but a minimum commitment of 3 months is required). The fall internship starts September 2016 through late August 2016.  If accommodations for variations on those dates are needed, they can happily be made. 

     

  • Social media and Marketing Internship in the Office of Undergraduate Research

    The UIC Office of Undergraduate Research seeks a social media and marketing intern for the fall semester or entire 16-17 academic year. This internship is unpaid but could be structured to meet the requirements of an honors college activity or a for-credit professional internship program in the major or degree-granting college, with an advisor's approval. 

    The student will work with the OUR 3-8 hours per week to find and publicize research and creative engagement opportunities for undergraduates and help organize, publicize and assess the impact of in-person events in comparison to online events and resources. Those interested in graphic or digital design would make posters, brochures and web pages, depending on their skill set. This would be an ideal opportunity for someone interested in digital media communications, social media, event planning, graphic or digital design, academic affairs and student success initiatives (higher education), and social or community psychology. The duties will be assigned to maximally benefit the student's educational goals.

  • Internships in Medical Social Sciences

    Internships in Medical Social Sciences:

    We are looking for a volunteer interns to join our research team in assisting with research projects at the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. The research the interns would be assisting with is part of the Biobehavioral Mechanisms and Health Outcomes Program.  The research focus is to understand advanced care disparities of Hispanic cancer patients and their informal caregivers through structured interviews which capture cancer care and treatment understanding, cultural beliefs and psychosocial experiences to understand and address disparities.

    The intern will assist with various tasks in support of the study, including: reviewing patient records, screening, doing follow-up calls, recruiting, consenting and completing assessments with participants in person or over the phone in English or in Spanish, managing and entering data, and collaborating with other staff members to achieve study goals in timely manner.

    We currently have two volunteer intern positions. Interested individuals must commit to coming to our offices for two to three days per week (12 hours weekly) for a period of at least six months, no less. Spoken fluency in Spanish is required for one of the positions; having interest in psychological, social and/or medical research is preferred.   • Clinical Internship at Rush Midwest Orthopaedics, Apply by Sun. 8/28

    Rush Midwest Orthopaedics is looking for 1-2 committed, compassionate, and diligent pre-medical students to help us enroll patients into clinical trials. The position requires two 3-4 hours shifts per week, with at least a semester long commitment; though times are flexible, we are looking for people that can dedicate time M-F, 8:30 to noon or 1 to 3:30 PM. A mandatory research training and certification will be provided prior to the first day and a TB test is required.

    We believe that this opportunity is ideal for a pre-medical student, as it will provide constant patient interaction, as well as possible shadowing experience. Volunteers may also have the opportunity to form relationships with the physician and medical professionals at Rush.

    We are looking for an intern interested in children’s literature, librarianship, and/or publishing to help with a number of research and archival projects. Possible projects include: updating our awards webpages, including Newbery and Caldecott sections, of the ALSC website with interesting and historical material (scanning/uploading photos, digitizing/uploading speeches, adding an FAQ section); create and converting manuals that exist as Word documents into Web-based documents; possible award-winning author/illustrator interviews.

    Day to day activities will include: curating our children’s book awards submissions collection by unpacking and shelving shipments; answering phone call from parents, educators, and the general public about ALSC’s award programs and other work; and retuning messages and inquiries from publishers. Help us organize and present the vast array of information we offer about children’s media, ALSC initiative and projects, ALSC committee work, ALSC history, and more.

  • The Horizons Fellowship- Technology/Software Program

    The Horizons Fellowship supports 10 outstanding university students in their pursuit to become leaders in technology. The program provides immersive software engineering and web/mobile development courses geared towards high-achieving college students. No computer science background needed and we invite business and liberal arts students to apply! Our curriculum, developed by ex-Salesforce, Optimizely, and D.E. Shaw engineers, is designed to teach students how to build web, mobile (iOS and Android) and desktop applications. We have a 4-month spring program and a 3-month summer program in San Francisco, Boston, and Philadelphia.

    The Horizons Mentor Network includes current/past employees of firms such as Google, Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, Snapchat, and more. As a Horizons student/graduate, you will have permanent access to this exceptional group of mentors to help with career choices, general mentorship, and more.

  • Internship Opportunities at the National Cancer Institute, Due 11/16

    The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is pleased to announce the 2017 Introduction to Cancer Research Careers (ICRC) Program.  ICRC encourages individuals from populations underrepresented in science or financially disadvantaged backgrounds to seek internship opportunities at the NCI.  Successful ICRC applicants will take part in a 2-day sponsored campus visit to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the various scientist-in-training programs, participate in laboratory tours, and interview for either a summer or post-baccalaureate (1-year) internship.  Participants selected for internships will receive a monthly stipend, round-trip travel, and a summer housing subsidy.  Housing for the interns is not included, however, a list of housing resources will be provided.

  • Internship in Medical Social Sciences

    We are looking for a volunteer intern to join our research team in assisting with a research project at the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. This opportunity would be a great fit for anyone interested in pursuing medical school or graduate programs in psychology, behavioral health, or public health. Through this internship, you will gain hands-on experience working with experts in the field, and you will have access to Northwestern’s state-of-the art research facilities. You will also have the chance to develop and refine your research skills.

    The study with which the intern would be assisting are part of the Biopsychosocial Mechanisms and Health Outcomes Program.  The primary project for which we currently need volunteers involves a technology-based psychosocial intervention for men with advanced prostate cancer. 

    The intern will assist with various tasks in support of the study, including:

    Reviewing patient medical records (usually electronic) Screening these records for participant eligibility Sending letters and making phone calls to recruit potential participants Conducting phone screeners potential participants Making follow-up calls Preparing study materials (i.e. paper assessment forms, saliva sample kits, etc.) Data extraction from participant medical charts Other required data entry Miscellaneous tasks as needed

    Interested individuals must commit 12 hours per week, which can be split among 2 or 3 days, depending on your schedule.  We request that you make a commitment of at least 6 months for this position.     The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) presents entertaining and smart programming about ideas that matter. But we do more than that. We shape ideas, helping our audiences see the world anew.     Interns are a vital component of our staff, we offer several project-based internships during three internship sessions (summer/fall/spring).     Fund for Education Abroad.  This is for non-traditional locations for study abroad in programs that are both immersive and rigorous.  This fits this program (although Paris is traditional) because it is immersive, rigorous and non-traditional in that students are interning within the social services.  Emphasize that an internship in the social services is a unique and non-traditional destination for studies in France.  It is important to note that this scholarship only supports academically rigorous and immersive study abroad programs.

  • Summer Diabetes Research Program, Apply by 1/15

    The UIC Honors College, in partnership with the UIC Department of Surgery and the Department of Bioengineering, is happy to announce a new Summer Research Program. The Summer Diabetes Research Program at UIC is a ten-week summer internship for undergraduates with a focus on diabetes research.  Sponosored by the NIH NIDDK R25 training program, this program will pair students with researchers in diabetes-related projects, such as islet transplantation, islet physiology, tissue engineering, beta-cell proliferation, microfluidic and nanotechnology technology, biological imaging, microencapsulation, and many other topics.  Students will also attend seminar-based lectures, conduct individual research, and experience a clinical component.

    Students will be compensated with a $3,000 stipend over the course of the ten-week program.

  • Internship Opportunity in Medical School Sciences

    We are looking for a volunteer intern to join our research team in conducting various research projects at the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. The studies the intern would be assisting with primarily focus on Hispanic breast cancer patients' cultural and psychosocial experiences in order to reduce disparities in cancer outcomes, and improve treatment self-management following active breast cancer treatment.

    This intern would assist with various tasks in support of multiple studies with Hispanic breast cancer patients. Some of the tasks include reviewing patient records, screening, recruiting, consenting and completing assessments with patients, managing and aiding in the analysis of data, translating study materials into Spanish, and aiding in the development and implementation of an eHealth intervention.

    Interested students would need to commit to coming into the lab for two to three days per week (12 hours weekly) for a period of at least six months. Spoken and written fluency in Spanish is required; having research, psychological, social and/or medical interests is preferred. Students could also benefit from receiving academic credit from their internship.     The National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Cancer Systems Biology Consortium and Physical Sciences in Oncology Network are offering rising Junior and Senior undergraduates with outstanding research potential the opportunity to work closely with faculty mentors from NCI-supported institutions for an 8-week summer fellowship. The 2017 summer research program is designed specifically for students to gain experience in the interdisciplinary fields of systems biology and physical oncology. Students who are especially interested in cancer research careers are encouraged to apply. Opportunities are available at 14 research institutions across the United States. Stipend, housing, and travel to and from the host institution are covered by NCI. Additionally, students will convene at the NIH in Bethesda, MD, mid-way through the summer to present their research and network with their peers.

    The Road Home Program: Center for Veterans and Their Families at Rush University Medical Center is currently seeking a volunteer undergraduate research assistant. This is an ideal position for an undergrad in social sciences who is interested in researching mental health, trauma, and military veterans. This position could also lead to opportunities to develop a capstone project. Job duties may include data transcription, data entry, general clerical tasks, literature searches, phone screenings, and other duties as assigned.     Greetings from Facets and Facets Children + Youth, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the exhibition, distribution and education of foreign, classic and independent cinema. Facets Internships are a great learning experience for anyone interested in event coordination, film, fundraising, writing, marketing, publicity, non-profit development & PR. Facets internships are unpaid.

    Available opportunities for spring 2017 include:

    *         Festival Programming Assistant - The Programming Assistant works closely with the Programming Director to coordinate Festival submissions, process entries, and develop and execute film screenings, workshops and special events. Candidates should have a background in film production or criticism, have strong writing skills (for note-taking, correspondence and film descriptions) or have coordinated events. Interns can gain experience in project management, event coordination, research, film programming, writing and publicity.

    *         Marketing/Social Media Coordinator - Students can expect to learn and gain proficiency in the use of social media as part of a coordinated marketing approach. This internship will offer participants the opportunity to help identify and analyze a target audience and plan and implement elements of marketing campaigns. This position also serves as Facets' liaison to online and social-media-based networks of film-lovers, keeping Facets apprised of ongoing conversations and raising online awareness of Facets' mission, programs, and offerings. Applicants should possess creativity, a broad and informed love of movies, attention to detail, experience in writing, general office skills, and Internet research. Responsibilities may also include coordinating promotional relationships and items for Facets, Facets Children's Programs and special events, publicizing in ethnic or niche markets, and Festival publicity coordination. Proficiency with graphic design programs a plus.

    *         Facets DVD Label - Sales, Marketing & Publicity Internship - The Facets DVD label distributes international and independent films on DVD, digitally and in theatres around the country.  Interns will participate in all aspects of independent film distribution including DVD releases, digital delivery and educational marketing. Tasks involve customer research and development, creating marketing materials and Internet campaigns, coordinating with press, creating promotional video clips, designing press kits, and interacting with filmmakers. Duties are in the field of film distribution - This is not a production job. Applicants should be web-savvy and proficient with both PCs and Macs and Excel. Photoshop skills not required but appreciated. Interest in film marketing and distribution, and/or film publicity is a plus. The environment is informal and collaborative and involves direct contact with all levels of Facets staff.

    The Horizons Fellowship The Horizons Fellowship supports 10 outstanding university students in their pursuit to become leaders in technology. The program provides immersive software engineering and web/mobile development courses geared towards high-achieving college students. Students need not have a computer science background! Our curriculum, developed by ex-Salesforce and Optimizely engineers alongside PhDs in computer science, is designed to teach students how to build web, mobile, and desktop applications.     Harvard University is one of ten U.S. institutions that again will be offering a ten-week Amgen Scholars Program in the summer of 2017.  The Harvard-Amgen program, with an emphasis on biotechnology research, affords a diverse cohort of rising undergraduate juniors and seniors the opportunity to work in the laboratories of faculty across the Harvard universe, including the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Division of Medical Sciences at Harvard Medical School. In addition to an engaging, formative research experience, Harvard-Amgen Scholars will live among the 400 undergraduates residents of the Harvard Summer Undergraduate Research Village community in one of the historic Houses along the Charles River.

  • Ron Brown Pre-Law Summer Prep Program, Apply by 2/6/17

    The Ron Brown Prep Program prepares students for thechallenges of law school and for the law school application process. Participants gain an edge in courses taught by Law School faculty; through internships with judges and lawyers; in a customized LSAT prep course; and with advising on all aspects of the admissions process. Past Ron Brown Prep Program students have seen their LSAT scores go up and have been accepted to more than 40 different law schools. Today, over 100 Ron Brown Prep Program alumni are attending law school or practicing law.
