CHICAGO ALDERMANIC INTERNSHIP
Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Thirty-Fifth Ward, City of Chicago
Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa seeks a paid intern for a five to six month assignment working and learning in the 35th Ward Office, ending in April or May 2017. The ideal intern should be motivated with a strong interest in municipal governance, great attention to detail, and strong interpersonal communication skills. Interns will learn about the duties and operational needs of a City of Chicago Aldermanic office, including the delivery of constituent services, casework, public policy, and the municipal legislative process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current college level sophomore, junior, senior or graduate school student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited college or university offering a baccalaureate or graduate degree program or an accredited law school
- Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.2 on a 4.0 grading scale
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the delivery of constituent services
- Research and analyze proposed city ordinances
- Maintain constituent records and prepare reports
- Draft informational materials and correspondence in response to inquiries; distribute informational materials
- Participate in the setup and operation of special events and program activities; and perform related duties, as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must provide a current college transcript
- Resume and current letter of enrollment verification from the school's registrar/dean confirming enrollment (or National Student Clearinghouse Proof of Enrollment Certificate)
- Grade level in order to be considered for the internship
- Bilingual English-Spanish speaker
- City of Chicago resident
- Available to work a minimum of 10-15 hours per week
WORKING CONDITIONS & COMPENSATION:
- The internship will be structured around your class schedule and will begin in November or December 2016 and end in April or May 2017 (before spring semester final exams)
- You are expected to work 10-15 hours a week in the 35th Ward Office, 2708 N. Sawyer, and will be paid $11/hour
