    • Increase access to accurate sexual health information and to health care
    • Increase youth voice within systems that impact their lives

    • Increase access to safe relationships and environments that promote a positive perception of self.

    Members of the Youth Leadership Council learn how to organize and educate peers and adults within their communities. They lead ICAH’s peer education work in schools and programs, organize in school, family and healthcare systems, and implement new media campaigns that transform public consciousness around youth sexual decision-making.

These vibrant students significantly contribute to the cause of child rights protection while learning about the international field at both the global and domestic levels based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

    As the internship progresses and interns engage with CCWF internship projects, social media, and reading, they become familiar with the academic and practical pursuits of international child rights protection including the economic, political, cultural and societal contexts in which CCWF and all child rights organizations operate. Interns also play a significant role in increasing social awareness of child rights issues through the social media avenues of Facebook and the CCWF website, where they actively discuss current global and domestic child rights' issues, and share activity and learning."

    The Disability Resource Center is seeking a Reader/Scribe to support a fellow student in ECON 121: Principles of Macroeconomics.

    Duties: Reader/scribe will help a student with a visual impairment complete the requirements for ECON 121.   Honors student would attend discussion sections and meet with student as needed outside class to assist with the visual and writing aspects of homework and in-class activities.  The student would be responsible for informing the reader/scribe what tasks are needed such as filling out or reading graphs aloud, describing images in detail.  Reader/scribe will also provide assistance to student on exams and quizzes throughout the semester.

    Qualifications: Previous experience in economics preferred. No plans on taking ECON 121 in the future.

    Days and Times: Discussion Section meets Thursdays from 9:30-10:20 a.m. Other days and times as negotiated with student.

    Join the IGNITE Leadership Experience as a mentor!

    Student Leadership Development and Volunteer Services and the Center for Student Involvement are looking for mentors to join for the 2016 Fall Semester IGNITE Leadership Experience. IGNITE is a semester-long exploratory leadership program designed to help first- and second-year undergraduate students gain leadership capacities and get involved in UIC.

    As engaged leaders, IGNITE mentors will help guide the leadership explorations of first- and second-year UIC students. The ideal mentor will have some leadership experience and, most importantly, be committed to engaging with leadership on a personal, academic, and professional level. IGNITE mentors will gain confidence in their interpersonal, facilitative, and advising skills—all critical areas of need for graduate school and the workforce!

     Requirements:

    Must be a UIC junior or senior undergraduate student. Must commit to attend every IGNITE session on Tuesday nights from 3:45-6pm starting September 20 and ending November 15.

    Unfortunately, due to the nature of our program, if you have a class/work/personal conflict that overlaps with our program schedule, you are not eligible to apply for the program. Please consider applying next year!

    Mentors must attend Catalyst LeaderShape on Saturday, September 17 from 9am-5pm. We are seeking involved students with a passion for helping other students find their place at UIC.

    The UIC WISE program has been asked to recruit science fair judges for the Upper Grade (6-8) Science Fair at Mark T. Skinner Fine Art & Technology School. They are looking for judges to evaluate the projects. If you or someone you know is able to come and help out, it will be appreciated. 

    Judges just need to have a willingness to help a young person make their science project better. UIC students, staff and faculty are all welcome to volunteer. There is a good number of volunteers already, but still a few more people are needed to help out. The science teacher will have an easy scoring rubric to follow.

    The Science Fair judging will take place on Monday, December 14th from 9:45 to 12:45 in the gym.

    Skinner is located near Whitney Young High School at 1260 W Adams St in Chicago.

    Register TODAY and join SLDVS on April 16th for the 7th Annual UIC Day of Service. This one day event brings together the UIC community to give back to Chicago. There are over 30 opportunities including framing a house, assisting at a Gala, prepping a community garden, tutoring, and volunteering at an animal shelter.     We have several sites that are welcoming of kids and we would love to see students, faculty, staff, and families all serving on the Day of Service.

Reliable pedestrian counts provide critical data for assessing and improving pedestrian safety and walkability as well as tracking city-wide trends in walking to work, school, and transit.

    Become a part of our volunteer community and empower local villages abroad in Northern Thailand, Nicaragua, and Tanzania. You might earn university academic credit by participating in a unique, accredited experiential learning course that will provide you with life changing professional and personal growth!
     
    GIVE is dedicated to creating opportunities for community development and service learning overseas through education, sustainable infrastructure projects, and environmental conservation. As a GIVE volunteer, you will build schools out of recyclable materials, implement fresh water projects, teach English, complete marine and environmental conservation projects, and help to protect critically endangered species. 


    In conjunction, you will get the chance to immerse yourself in the culture of your host country and participate in incredible adventure travel within the region. This includes (but is not limited to): overnight safaris in Africa, sand-boarding down an active volcano in Nicaragua, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins and sharks in tropical waters, surfing, cave exploration, volunteering at elephant sanctuaries in Thailand, and much more!   
     
    GIVE is committed to using best practices in sustainable development. Our development approach is supported and vetted by numerous experts in the field, and is designed to empower our host communities.  For example, GIVE volunteers constructed an entire secondary school out of 15,000 plastic bottles recycled straight from the community, and is funding desperately needed technical education initiatives for a fishing village in rural Nicaragua.
     
    Not only will you have a hands-on experience, you will also have the opportunity to learn about sustainable development and cross-cultural relations through our UNIV 304 International Sustainable Development course offered in partnership with Central Washington University!
