Food Recovery Network has currently prevented almost 8000 lbs of food from the waste stream this year. However, as recovery demands have increased, we have had to say no to some collections due to lack of drivers. This means the perfectly good food will a) be thrown out, and b) not fed to shelter residents who are expecting it.
Students with cars: we are in need of volunteers to help pick up and drop-off food from either the Chicago French Market (Saturdays 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm) to Revive Center or Mercy Home, or from the UI Health hospital (M, W, or F 10:00 am) to the Franciscan House. NRHH-reportable volunteer hours can be signed off on. Sign up for slots below:
Recoveries take about 20 minutes total and can be signed up on an individual-date basis. For more information, please contact Anusha Jalasutram at email@example.com or visit https://www.facebook.com/FRNatUIC/.
