The UIC College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy in Rockford initiated a collaboration with Lifescape Community Services (https://lifescapeservices.org/) to develop a program (21st Century Good Neighbor Program) to alleviate older adult social isolation and fear/anxiety during the COVID-19 crisis. We currently have over 500 senior residents and 200 volunteers in our program and we are ready for another year of community work.
We are recruiting student, faculty, and staff volunteers to make phone calls to senior residents who reside in Northwestern Illinois. The purpose of this program is to identify concerns/questions that senior residents may have about health care and social issues. Volunteers are asked to commit 1 hour of time per week to check-in on 1 to 2 senior residents/neighbors by making weekly phone calls. (Phone call scripts will be provided to guide these phone conversations). All volunteers will need to complete the following training:
• Zoom session training (30 minutes)–training date options will be sent out to volunteers
• Complete and sign volunteer application package
