  • Chicago Park District Public Service Intern, Apply by 5/30

    The Chicago Park District Office of the Inspector General is an independent office that conducts investigations, process reviews, financial and program audits, and hiring monitoring within the Chicago Park District. The Park District OIG’s mission is to promote efficiency, economy and transparency within the Park District by combatting fraud, waste, and abuse.

    The Park District OIG is seeking one to three interns to support investigative, auditing, and hiring oversight projects. Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong interest in public service and government accountability.

    NOTE: Applications must be submitted directly by the applicant. No second-party applications will be accepted. The Park District OIG requires that its employees be nonpartisan and free from conflicts of interest.

    UNPAID INTERNSHIP: Internship may be considered for academic credit or other educational stipend or scholarship. Because internship is unpaid, City of Chicago residency is preferred but not required.

    DUTIES: Under the supervision of Park District OIG personnel, Interns will be tasked with legal research, investigative research, analysis, report writing and other duties as assigned in support of the Park District OIG’s investigative, audit and hiring monitoring projects.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Open to college juniors and seniors, graduate students and law students in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited four year college or university offering a baccalaureate or graduate degree or juris doctor program. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4 point grading scale or a 3.5 on a 5 point grading scale. Applicants must submit most recent transcripts with applications. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, strong organizational and interpersonal skills are desirable.

  • Urban Public Policy Fellowship Program, Apply by Fri. 5/20

    URBAN PUBLIC POLICY FELLOWSHIP (UPPF) PROGRAM

    The Urban Public Policy Fellowship (UPPF) program is a leadership development program designed to expose historically underrepresented minority undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to key public policy issues. The program provides Fellows with weekly seminars offering a solid introduction to theory and practice in the areas of public policymaking, advocacy, community development, and service provision and also a valuable internship experience.  Students from all academic areas are eligible, including those with an interest in fields such as education, urban planning, political science, sociology, urban health, communication, and law. Upperclassman standing (minimum 45 hours) is necessary to participate in this non-degree, non-credit program.  For more information regarding the UPPF program or application process, please contact Catalina Nava at cnava2@uic.edu

  • Aldermanic Summer Internship Program - Paid Internships

    Alderman Milly Santiago's 31st Ward Office is seeking an intern for this summer.

    *         The 31st Ward covers parts of Logan Square, Belmont Cragin, Hermosa and Portage Park.

    *         The 31st Ward has a large percentage of Spanish speakers and a smaller amount of Polish speakers. An intern with bilingual abilities in either language would be preferable.

    *         Someone from the Ward would also be preferable for local knowledge.

    Interns assist staff with the day-‐to-‐day operations of the office.  This includes serving as the front line of the office in interactions with constituents by manning the phones and staffing the front office. Interns also assist staff with events and policy research on relevant topics.An internship with a federal legislative office is one of the best ways to begin a career in politics and government.   • Internship Opportunities with Rape Victim Advocates

    Rape Victim Advocates (RVA) is looking for interns for a position beginning this summer and extending next year in their Advocacy Program.

    Accepted candidates will attend summer training beginning July 25th– August 29th, every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 5:30pm – 9:30pm.

    RVA is an independent, not‐for‐profit organization dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors through non‐judgmental crisis intervention counseling, individual and group counseling, and medical and legal advocacy in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. RVA provides public education and institutional advocacy in order to improve the treatment of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive change in policies and public attitudes toward sexual assault.

  • Chicago Humanities Festival Summer Internship Opportunities, Apply by 4/30

    Chicago Humanities Festival is recruiting summer interns for the Marketing, Development, Programing, Production and Web/Multi-Media departments.   

    Interns are a vital component of our staff, we offer several project-based internships during three internship sessions (summer/fall/spring). The internship program requires a commitment of 14-21 hours a week for 3 to 9 months (a 9 month internship is preferred, but a minimum commitment of 3 months is required). The summer internship starts early June 2016 through late August 2016.  We are more than happy to accommodate variations on those dates if your students have different requirements.  Attached is the internship application form and description of internships available this summer session.  Applications are due April 30.

  • Lieutenant Governor's Summer Internship Program, Apply by 4/15

    The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is currently seeking to fill a few unpaid and part-time internship positions for Summer 2016.

    These positions will be directed toward students who are interested in obtaining experience in government. Please be advised that the position requires the applicant to qualify for and receive college credit for participation in the in the Internship.The Lieutenant Governor's Internship Program offers the opportunity for junior and senior college students to gain experience in public service. This program is designed to provide hands on experience in the areas of policy, outreach, communications, and operations.

    This internship is a great opportunity to see how state government operates and works. Interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of the office and will be expected to compile and present a portfolio of work completed throughout the internship. Interns will be responsible for drafting documents, contacting constituents, assisting with meetings and briefings, tracking legislation, preparing correspondence, answering phones, and any other office duties that may arise.

  • Internship in Medical Social Sciences Research at Northwestern University

    INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY IN MEDICAL SOCIAL SCIENCES

    We are looking for a volunteer intern to join our research team in conducting various research projects at the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. The studies the intern would be assisting with are part of the Biobehavioral Mechanisms and Health Outcomes Program. Studies within this program primarily focus on understanding the Hispanic breast cancer patient’s cultural and psychosocial experience in order to improve treatment self-management following active breast cancer treatment and reduce disparities in cancer outcomes. 

    This intern would assist with various tasks in support of multiple studies with Hispanic breast cancer patients. Some of the tasks include reviewing patient records, screening, recruiting, consenting and completing assessments with patients, managing and aiding in the analysis of data, translating study materials into Spanish, and aiding in the development and implementation of an eHealth intervention.

    Interested students would need to commit to coming into the lab for two to three days per week (12 hours weekly) for a period of at least a semester. Spoken and written fluency in Spanish is required; having research, psychological, social and/or medical interests is preferred. Training in medical language in English and Spanish will be provided.   • The Washington Center Internships Info Session, Thurs. 4/7

    As you may already know, The Washington Center is an educational, non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. We partner with colleges and universities to provide students from most majors with an opportunity to intern in the nation's capital while earning academic credit at their home institution.

    A TWC representative, Sara Biggs, will be visiting your campus on Thursday, April 7th and will host an information session in the Office of Career Services Conference Room at 3:00 p.m.

    Scholarships for Illinois students are still available. Students attending the University of Illinois at Chicago may be eligible to receive up to $8,000 in scholarships for TWC's upcoming summer term. There is no additional paperwork required beyond our standard application.

  • Volunteer with Illinois JusticeCorps and/or Visit the Daley Center Courthouse

    Volunteer with the Illinois JusticeCorps and learn about legal documents and how the court system at the Daley Center operates.

    In addition, the Pre-Law Society will be planning a group visit to the Daley Center courthouse to tour the Cook County Resource Center for People Without a Lawyer, where students will learn more about Illinois JusticeCorps and undergraduate volunteer opportunities. We will meet April 15th (a Friday) at 3:00 in the Montgomery Ward Lounge to take the Blue Line together to the courthouse.

  • Urban Ecology Field Lab - Summer Field Museum program, Apply by 3/20

    This 8-week interdisciplinary course will train students in the social and ecological methods that will prepare them to conduct their own urban ecology research project in partnership with a local CBO and land management/public policy agency.   • Civic Engagement Fellowship - Seeking Applicants

    In light of the upcoming November election, Student Leadership Development and Volunteer Services is seeking undergraduate student applications for a Civic Engagement Fellowship.

    Responsibilities include:

    Creating a comprehensive non-partisan voter guide; Assisting in the planning of a Rock the Vote event to be held on National Voter Registration Day; Coordinating Presidential Debate, Vice Presidential Debate, Election Night, and Inauguration Watch Parties; Implementing an on campus media campaign to increase voter registration and turn out.

    We are seeking a Fellow who is both knowledgeable and passionate about the civic/political process.

    Fellowship Terms: Summer 2016 - end of Fall 2016 semester.

    There is potential for this Fellowship to be counted towards academic credit.

  • UIC Heritage Garden 2016 Summer Internship, Apply by 3/18

    The UIC Heritage Garden is a hands-on learning project with an internship program. Paid student interns work with faculty, staff, and community members to connect horticulture with environmental sustainability, cultural diversity, and social justice. There are currently 8 satellite gardens on the east side of campus. The six Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change (CCUSC) collaborate on this project with program infrastructure provided by the Latino Cultural Center. The internship program is funded by the UIC Sustainability Fee.

    The ideal candidates should be equally interested in working in the garden as well as on the other priorities of the project, including its research and community engagement components.

  • WXRT Promotions Internship

    WXRT-FM is looking for enthusiastic Interns who are eager to learn the dynamics of a large market radio station. WXRT has been nationally recognized as one of Chicago’s most legendary rock stations. 

    Throughout the internship experience, interns will be representing the radio station at many of Chicago’s largest and most exciting events, including street festivals and concerts. Intern works closely with the Promotions Manager and Promotions Assistants to fulfill all station promotions. WXRT interns will be closely involved in all integral areas of a radio station, including Sales, Production, and Programming. Representing WXRT in a public relations capacity is an extremely important role as an intern, and will contribute to the station’s overall image and success.

    Duties:

    •Organizing, preparing, coordinating, and executing promotional events for WXRT

    •Maintaining the XRT VIP listener program both on-site at events and in the office

    •Representing WXRT in a public relations capacity at station events, including street festivals, XRT concerts, broadcasts, and sales promotions

    •Assist in managing the XRT VIP database with correspondence, event preparation and execution

    • Basic administrative tasks, maintenance of databases, and mailings

  • Summer Diabetes Research Program at UIC, Apply by Sun. 2/28

    The UIC Honors College, in partnership with the UIC Department of Surgery and the Department of Bioengineering, is happy to announce a new Summer Research Program. The Summer Diabetes Research Program at UIC is a ten-week summer internship for undergraduates with a focus on diabetes research.  Sponosored by the NIH NIDDK R25 training program, this program will pair students with researchers in diabetes-related projects, such as islet transplantation, islet physiology, tissue engineering, beta-cell proliferation, microfluidic and nanotechnology technology, biological imaging, microencapsulation, and many other topics.  Students will also attend seminar-based lectures, conduct individual research, and experience a clinical component.

    Students will be compensated with a $3,000 stipend over the course of the ten-week program.

  • Summer 2016 Camp GirlForward Teaching Internship in Chicago

    GirlForward is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to empowering adolescent refugee girls who have been resettled in the U.S. We are looking for interns who can support our Camp GirlForward program this summer in both AUSTIN, TX and CHICAGO, IL! Camp GirlForward is GirlForward's academic summer program designed to meet the needs of girls with limited and interrupted educational backgrounds through instruction in various subjects, as well as enrichment activities designed to build confidence and leadership skills. Camp is built on the tenets of social justice and will involve intensives in reading, writing, and research.

    DESCRIPTION

    GirlForward is seeking a Camp GirlForward teaching intern to support our Camp GirlForward lead teacher in the classroom and during enrichment activities. This position works directly with the Camp GirlForward lead teacher, as well as with GirlForward's Program director and serves as both a teaching assistant and camp counselor.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    - assisting lead teacher with classroom management

    - assisting lead teacher with curriculum development

    - working one-on-one with girls in the classroom

    - leading small groups of girls in group discussions and activities

    - assisting with planning and coordination of field trips

    - grading assignments

    - helping girls navigate transportation to/from Camp GirlForward

    - contributing blog posts to GirlForward blog about experience

    - completing administrative tasks such as preparing materials, monitoring supplies, tidying office, attendance related data entry

    The extensive partnering relationships with universities and other government agencies will expose participants to a broad research community. Program participants will have the opportunity to meet government decision-makers and learn directly from them about the role of scientific research in addressing complex, real-world (i.e., operational) needs.

    Furthermore, fellows have the opportunity to learn how research products transition from the proof-of-concept stage to integrated production systems
