This includes serving as the front line of the office in interactions with constituents by manning the phones and staffing the front office. Interns also assist staff with events and policy research on relevant topics. An internship with a federal legislative office is one of the best ways to begin a career in politics and government. Almost everyone who works in government or in politics began their careers as interns for elected officials. You will be able to build contacts with current staffers and other governmental organizations.
Email a resume, cover letter, and writing sample (letter of recommendation optional) to shaun_mccabe@kirk.senate.gov OR email the completed application found at www.kirk.senate.gov/?p=internships to shaun_mccabe@kirk.senate.gov. Either submission method is acceptable. Interns should be self-starters who want to take an active role in the office. Interns should also be able to maintain professionalism at all times when interacting with staff and constituents.
