  • UIC Truman Scholarship Deadline Extended to Friday, Nov. 6

    The Truman is a $30,000 award for graduate/professional study for students who want careers in public service at a leadership level. Students interested in learning about the Truman should check out the website generally: www.truman.gov and review the sample application: http://www.truman.gov/sample-application-forms/

    Note: References ARE REQUIRED for the campus nomination. You must submit at least 3, but you can submit more. The letters are very specific to certain qualities about you and to experiences you write about in your application.

    German-American Youth Exchange Info Session

    The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a reciprocal exchange program between the United States and Germany, designed to strengthen ties and understanding between the people of both countries. The fellowship is annually awarded to 75 American and 75 German young professionals, and is funded by the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress through the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). CBYX participants act as ambassadors of their home country and culture while immersing themselves in the academic, professional, and everyday life of their host culture.

  • Office of External Fellowships at Illinois launching Fellowship Finder Database

    The Office of External Fellowships at Illinois is pleased to announce the launch of our new Fellowship Finder database.   Replacing our older Fellowship Opportunities database, Fellowship Finder features over 1,100 curated listings of grants and fellowships for graduate students.  It also offers new features that allow for faster and more targeted searches as well as sharing through social media.  We explain these features in our blog post,  Grad School 101: How to Find Fellowships That Are Right for You.

  • Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Deadline Extended to Wed. 11/26

    The Goldwater Scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding sophomores and juniors interested in pursuing a career in science, math or engineering. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books and room/board up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Sophomores are eligible for up to two years of funding.

    Candidates must be full time sophomores or juniors at the time of application, be interested in a research career in science, math or engineering, be a U.S. citizen, natural or resident alien, and have a GPA of 3.7 or above. Students planning on medical studies alone are not eligible. Students pursuing the MD/PhD can be candidates. Due to the competitive nature of the UIC selection process, strong candidates should have at least 3 months of science/engineering research experience.

    Candidates must be nominated by UIC and may not apply directly. UIC students interested in applying should contact the Office of Special Scholarship Programs (ssp@uic.edu) for more information about the application process.

  • Fulbright Fellowship for Teaching English or Research Abroad, Due Fri. 9/12

    Immediately after World War II in 1946, Congress created the Fulbright Program, to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange. Students participate in English teaching or a self-designed program of study that can include research, university coursework, art projects, language study and more. The grants are available to over 150 countries, and generally provide round-trip transportation, language or orientation courses, maintenance for the academic year, and supplemental health and accident insurance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who hold a BA or BS by the beginning of the grant period.

    The UIC deadline is September 12.  The national deadline is October 15.  There is still time to prepare an application!  If you're interested, read more here and then contact Beth Powers at bpowers@uic.edu 

  • NSEP Boren Study Abroad Scholarships, Info Session Fri. 10/23

    Each year the National Security Education Program awards David L. Boren Scholarships to outstanding U.S. undergraduates through a competitive national merit-based process. Since 1994, NSEP has awarded approximately 2,828 Boren Scholarships. Each Boren Scholar goes abroad to a critical country to study its language and culture. Awards are for up to one academic year. Boren Scholars demonstrate their merit for an award of up to $20,000 in part by committing to work for the U.S. Government for at least one year.

    How can I get more information? Attend an information session with Alison Mary Patz, Program Analyst, Defense Language and National Security Education Office at 1pm on Friday, October 23 in UH 850. Ms. Patz will speak about the undergraduate scholarship and the graduate fellowship both of which enable students to study abroad in non-English speaking countries outside of Western Europe.

    Boren Scholarship Basics:

    Award Amounts Maximum scholarship awards are:

    $8,000 for a summer program (special initiative for STEM students only; 8 weeks minimum) $10,000 for a semester $20,000 for a full academic year 

    Length of Study Boren Scholarships promote long term linguistic and cultural immersion, and therefore study abroad proposals for two or more semesters are strongly encouraged.

    National Security  The program focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Descriptions can be found on the website: http://borenawards.org/boren_scholarship/basics.html

    Application Details: UIC’s application deadline is January 15, 2016. The Boren national deadline is February 9, 2016. Students applying at this time will be considered for summer 2016, fall 2015, spring 2017 and Academic Year 16-17.   • ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund 2014, Due 3/3

    The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund for the 2014-2015 academic year is now available.  The Scholarship Fund is intended to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to these students.

    The Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. The application can be downloaded from http://www.ambar.org/DiversityScholarship. Completed scholarship applications must be received via email: legalosf@americanbar.org  no later than March 3, 2014.

    Recipients will be selected based on their qualifications for the scholarship and not on the law school they plan to attend.     Scholarship season is here, and Educators for Fair Consideration are excited to bring you our 2016-2017 Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship Materials.

    Now, more than ever, it is important for immigrant students to know that—regardless of their immigration status—they are eligible for many scholarships!

    This year, we have added 90 new scholarships to our undergraduate and graduate scholarship databases.  Over 80% of these scholarships are open to students regardless of immigration status. They do not require applicants to disclose their immigration status

  • The Kevin Spacey Foundation Grant for Artists, due May 29

    The KSF grants support emerging artists and companies, recognising them as KSF Artists of Choice.

    Do you have a great idea for a new project but need help to get it off the ground? A KSF Grant gives you a financial boost of up to £10,000 / $10,000, mentoring opportunities with respected industry professionals and advice on how to promote yourself / your company and your project.

    Each year KSF selects ten KSF Artists of Choice, five UK based applicants and five US based applicants.

    They want to hear from artists / companies who are looking to develop:

    A Play

    A Musical

    A Dance Piece

    A Choir / Band

    A Short Film

    The successful artists / companies will be recognised as the annual KSF Artists of Choice, supported through mentoring and professional guidance as well as a grant of up to £10,000 / $10,000.

    KSF Artists of Choice are supported in part by Amy Ballard and friends of Irene Worth and Mitchell Erickson in their honor.

    Applications will be available on the KSF website from May 01  –  May 29, 2015

  • DAAD Information Session, Tues. 9/13

    For anyone interested in studying or conducting research in Germany, funding is available through DAAD, the German Exchange Service (https://www.daad.org/). UIC has an arrangement with DAAD, allowing our students to be evaluated by a campus committee, who provides an endorsement and ranking, which historically has secured funding for at least one UIC student. The campus deadline is October 19th for this opportunity.

    DAAD has dozens of different funding opportunities with various deadlines. Viable student applicants come from all disciplines, from Art History and Germanic Studies to Mechanical Engineering and Public Health. Marie Khan will be holding an information session on  Tuesday, September 13th in UH 650 at noon. Refreshments will be provided.

    At this workshop, Marie Khan will go over the following three particular options DAAD funds, and the award process:

    -          Study Scholarship for Architecture: Deadline is September 30th, 2016 (https://www.daad.org/?p=gradstudy); there is no campus committee evaluation for these applications and they are mailed overseas to Bonn, Germany

    -          Study Scholarship for Fine Art, Design, Film, Music, and Performing Arts: Deadline is October 31st, 2016 (https://www.daad.org/?p=gradstudy); there is no campus committee evaluation for these applications and they are mailed overseas to Bonn, Germany

    Some eligibility points to consider:

    -applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents

    -applicants do not necessarily need to be fluent in German

    -for arts applicants, unfortunately, they are not able to be evaluated by our preliminary UIC committee. Anyone interested in this route however Marie Khan would be happy to meet with regardless

    Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarship

    Apply now for the 2017-19 Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarships – Full 2 year scholarship

    Every year, the Pershing Square Foundation awards up to five full scholarships to support outstanding students on the 1+1 MBA, covering both the Master's degree and the MBA year. Pershing Square Scholars are exceptional individuals who can demonstrate the potential and commitment to finding scalable and sustainable solutions to world-scale social challenges. The scholarship is if you would like to pursue any of the partnering Master’s degrees and combine it with our MBA. It is also available if you are currently studying one of the Master's partnering programmes and wish to apply to the MBA programme. 

    Established in 2014, the Oxford Pershing Square Scholarship provides funding for tuition, college fees and a contribution towards living expenses for both years of studies. You would also benefit from opportunities for mentorship and networking with inspirational individuals and organisations that are part of the Pershing Square Foundation’s community. You become integrated into Saïd Business School’s community as soon as you begin your Master’s degree by attending receptions and meetings with our Dean, faculty and other MBA scholars. You can access and utilise both your department and Oxford Saïd’s resources and networks throughout both years. You will also be invited to a spring ‘trek’ to New York City hosted by the Pershing Square Foundation, where you can participate in meetings and workshops with leading innovators and change makers.

    How to apply

    To be considered for the scholarship you must apply to the 1+1 MBA by 17 March 2017. Please note that some partnering Masters close their applications in January 2017 and others in March 2017. 

    In addition to the Master and MBA applications, you must submit an essay of no more than 500 words addressing this question 'How do you intend to change the world? What does this tell us about you as a person?’

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with the selection panel.

  • College of Business Scholarships, Info Sessions 2/3 and 2/5, Deadline 2/19

    This year, the College of Business scholarship applications will be available on the UIC SnAP, the university’s centralized scholarship list and application system. UIC SnAP contains scholarships for continuing UIC students in all colleges and at all levels. Start by logging in with your netid in the upper right hand corner. Next, complete the General Application which will match you with scholarships for which you qualify and no further action is needed. You may also be recommended for scholarships that require additional essays or uploads. External scholarships are also listed in the system and directions to other websites may be provided.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    To apply, you must be a current undergraduate student in the UIC College of Business with a graduation date of Spring 2017 or later.Scholarship Funds are received in the Fall Semester 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters.Eligible students must have UIC GPA (Spring 2016 Transfer Students are not eligible to apply).Students must be in good academic standing, and registered as a full-time student during the entire 2016-2017 academic year.Incomplete or inaccurate information will result in a disqualified scholarship application.

    Applicants may receive scholarships more than once and are encouraged to apply again in subsequent semesters if they are eligible.

  • Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship, Due 2/28

    The new component of the Fulbright Program will offer up to five awards to U.S. citizens for nine months of overseas travel and multi-media storytelling on globally significant social or environmental topics. Fellows will focus their digital stories on one of the program’s eight themes: biodiversity, cities, cultures, disasters, energy, food, oceans, and water. The Fulbright-National Geographic Fellowship will provide a unique platform for U.S. Fulbrighters to undertake an in-depth exploration of a globally relevant issue, comparing and contrasting how that issue is experienced across borders. Utilizing a variety of digital storytelling tools and media, including blogs, photography, video, and social media, Fellows will share their stories by providing content to a National Geographic blog and other platforms with the support of National Geographic’s editorial team.

    British Scholarships: The Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Gates Cambridge Scholarships offer students the opportunity to study in the UK for 1-2 years.   • DAAD German Studies Research Grant, Applications on a Rolling Basis

    This specialized DAAD program once again offers German Studies Research Grants to highly-qualified undergraduate, graduate and PhD students at American and Canadian universities who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (i.e., 1-2 months) in Germany.

    The program is designed to encourage research and promote the study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary German affairs from an interdisciplinary perspective.

    Additional grants will be made available for research projects in Germany on the social, communal, and intellectual history of German-speaking Jewry and stipends awarded in conjunction with the Leo Baeck Institute in New York.

    The Garden Club of America (GCA) with the support of Casey Trees in Washington, DC, is soliciting applications for its national urban forestry fellowship.   • Soros Fellowship for "New Americans," Apply by 11/1

    Soros Foundation Scholarship: http://www.pdsoros.org/  

    According to the foundation website, the Paul and Daisy Soros Scholarship for New Americans “provide[s] opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields and to partake of the American dream. The program was established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States afforded the founders of the Fellowship, Paul & Daisy Soros.”

    Some additional information:
    *Applicants are considered “New Americans” if they are naturalized American citizens (or permanent residents) or if both of their parents are naturalized citizens.
    *At the time of their selection, Fellows must be college seniors or early in the graduate programs for which they request support.
    *Each Fellow receives tuition and living expenses that can total as much as $90,000 over two academic years. This money is used for graduate or professional school, including medical school.
    *Fellows are selected on the basis of merit (not financial need). The specific criteria emphasize creativity, originality, initiative and sustained accomplishment.

  • 2017 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship application, Apply by 1/13

    We are proud to announce that the 2017 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship application is now open!

    As you may know, the Pickering Fellowship is one of the State Department’s premier recruitment programs aimed at increasing diversity among U.S. Foreign Service officers. The Fellowship is designed to attract outstanding individuals from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career with the U.S. Department of State. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Program highlights include:

    Undergraduate candidates (10 fellowships available): Up to $37,500 annually for tuition, room and board, books, mandatory fees and some travel expenses for the senior year of undergraduate studies, and first year of a master’s degree in fields related to the Foreign Service such as business administration, economics, public policy, international affairs, and other relevant fields. Graduate candidates (20 fellowships available): Up to $37,500 annually for tuition, room and board, books, mandatory fees and some travel expenses for a two-year master’s degree in fields related to the Foreign Service such as business administration, economics, public policy, international affairs, and other relevant fields. Two summer internships, one at a domestic office of the Department of State in Washington, D.C. and one overseas at a U.S. embassy or consulate. The program provides stipends, transportation and housing for these internships. Employment in the Department of State Foreign Service for those who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements.

Students are encouraged to survey this page to assess their eligibility and review expectations if selected. All applications for undergraduate and graduate fellowships must be received by January 13, 2017 in order to be considered.

    Are you in need of financial assistance to help pay your tuition next semester? The Honors College has a limited number of fall semester tuition waivers available for continuing UIC Honors College students. The waivers will be awarded based on a combination of academic merit and financial need to full-time students with a minimum UIC cumulative GPA of 3.5.  Applicants must have earned at least 12 credit hours at UIC to be eligible to apply.

  • James Madison Memorial Fellowship for teachers Info Session, Tues. 1/20

    The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers $24,000 James Madison Graduate Fellowships to individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary school level.

    To be eligible to apply for a fellowship, you must: Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national. Be a teacher, or plan to become a teacher, of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7–12). Possess a bachelor's degree or plan to receive a bachelor's degree no later than August 31 of the year in which you are applying.

    Professional Teaching Obligation: After receiving the master's degree, each Fellow must teach American history, American government, or social studies in grades 7–12 for one full year for each academic year of funding received under a fellowship, preferably in the state from which the recipient won the fellowship

  • American-Scandinavian Foundation Awards Due 11/1

    Interested in carrying out a research, study or creative arts project in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and/or Sweden? Consider applying for a American-Scandinavian Foundation fellowship (up to $23,000) or grant (up to $5,000).

  • DAAD Intensive Language Courses in Germany

    The Intensive Language Course Grant funds applicants from North American universities, who at the time of application have attained at least sophomore standing (second-year standing in Canada), to attend 8-week intensive language courses at leading institutes in Germany.

    The scholarship of approximately €2,300 includes tuition, accommodations (arranged by the host institute) and a cash allowance for meals and incidental expenses in full or in part, depending on the choice of location and accommodations. DAAD will provide health and accident insurance as well as a travel subsidy of €300-450. Scholarship recipients are expected to devote their full attention to the course and may not concurrently undertake individual research. A written report is requested within four weeks of the end of the course.

    DAAD will consider individual placement preferences, but grantees are requested to accept DAAD's final decision as to time and place.

    What is it:

    The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations or to the environment.  In 2016, the Udall Foundation will award 60 scholarships of up to $7,000 each, and anticipates that at least 20 scholarships will be awarded to American Indian or Alaska Native students in Tribal Public Policy and Native Health Care. Students must be enrolled for the 16-17 academic year.
