The 2017 Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship competition is under way, with two more application deadlines available for interested candidates: November 29 and January 23.

As many of you know, the WW Teaching Fellowships offer intensive master’s-level teacher preparation, including a year of classroom experience, for exceptionally qualified candidates. Eligible applicants may be graduating seniors or recent grads/alumni; they should have a commitment to teaching in the urban and rural schools that most often lack strong STEM teachers; and they must have completed STEM degrees.

The Fellowships are available this year in Georgia and New Jersey (with more states now in the works). Fellows attend a partner institution in one of these states and commit to teach for three years in the same state, but they need not be from that state. Fellows receive a generous stipend ($30,000 or more, depending on location) to complete the master’s program. Throughout their three-year teaching commitment, they continue to receive mentoring and support from both their universities and their schools.

To learn more, take a look at the program’s website, download a poster, attend a webinar, or write directly to Danielle DiFiore, one of our WW Teaching Fellowship recruiters, atdifiore@woodrow.org. Professor Roy Plotnick, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

    Tuesday, November 15
    4:00-5:00 pm
    121 Burnham Hall

Our environment – the Earth system we live in and depend on – is increasingly being altered by human activity, bringing a new and urgent dimension to the study of Earth and environmental sciences. Our understanding of Earth processes provides essential information on critical natural resources like water, air, and soil; the materials needed for innovative construction, manufacturing, and technology; and the framework for exploring other planets, moons, and beyond.  Careers  using a major in Earth and environmental science are many, including basic science, law, public health and policy, medicine, and engineering. Current projections are for strong growth in employment with jobs paying well above average.
