    The Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), Clinical Research Center is seeking a student worker who will aid in the day to day activities to help keep the Clinical Research Center running efficiently and effectively. 

    Duties include: Answering phones, preparing for next day subjects (pulling and creating charts, setting up supplies and equipment), filing charts and documents, general center clean up, making and collating copies, inventory and stocking supplies/food, and specific projects assigned by center staff.

    Student will be able to gain general clinical research knowledge and have the opportunity to work with research investigators, nurses and coordinators.   Student must be able to commit 10-15 hours per week.

    UNDERGRADUATE DATA ENTRY POSITION

    The Institute for Health Research and Policy has an immediate opening for an undergraduate student to enter and manage data for a nationwide study of school district wellness policies funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

    Position Overview

    The primary job function is to enter/manage data and to help to develop data-related end products (tables and presentations). Additional administrative duties may include copying, web searches, filing, and phone calls. This position will start as soon as possible but no earlier than after the Fall 2015 UIC final exam period. Ideally, the student will work during winter break (with the exception of holiday periods). The position will continue through the Spring 2016 semester.  Additionally, there is a potential for this position to continue through the summer and possibly the Fall of 2016 depending on project needs and funding availability. The position is located on the Westside of campus.

    Key Qualifications:

    Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; Experience with Microsoft Word formatting, tables, styles; Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint; Prior experience doing data entry or working on large, university research studies preferred; Experience with data management and/or development of data-related products) a plus; Ability to work at least 10-15 hours per week (more during breaks); Excellent attention to detail; Ability to sustain attention to repetitive tasks for extended periods of time; Ability to work independently following directions, but ask for guidance when needed; and, Excellent organizational skills.

  • Job Opportunity for Undergrads on the Looks and Achievement Project, Apply by Fri. 8/19

    Undergraduate coders will rate short (10 second) videos as part of a National Institute of Health funded project to examine how physical attractiveness and other aspects of looks relate to social and academic achievement. 

    Students will attend an initial training session and, contingent on successfully completing the training, will work independently to complete their rating tasks. Students will be part of a team of coders, and will work under the supervision of Dr. Rachel Gordon, the study’s principal investigator, and Rowena Crabbe, the project coordination.

    Students must have access to a computer with Internet connection, a strong work ethic, and good academic standing (at least 3.25 GPA) for this role. This position will pay hourly and the hours may vary per week but will fall in the range of 5 – 10 per week. Rate of pay will be set at UIC’s Research Scientific Aide level. Students who are looking for future independent study or honors thesis opportunities are also encouraged to apply, and would participate in an initial paid trial period to ensure mutual fit.  All coders must be willing to commit to one year of work with the projects.  Coders who excel at their role will have the opportunity to continue for an additional year and for taking on additional responsibilities over the course of the project.  Coders will enjoy flexible hours, the opportunity for growth, as well as the opportunity to work directly with graduate students and tenured faculty on an ongoing research project!

    The Behavioral Sleep Medicine Laboratory is recruiting a research assistant to manage studies investigating the relationship between sleep and circadian rhythms with body weight, health behaviors and blood pressure.     Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

    Assists in recruitment, obtaining informed consent and data collection including administration of questionnaires, set up and downloading of sleep tracking an blood pressure devices. Screens, schedules and tracks subject participation making reminder phone calls and following up on non-participation. Assists in tracking all payments to participants. Maintains and orders supplies when needed. Maintains forms and electronic data collection devices via the Redcap system. Attends research staff meetings. Assists in maintaining database for screened subjects and recruitment sites. Assists in developing marketing materials and off site recruitment efforts. Complies with ethical standards for research involving human subjects. If interested, will have the opportunity to contribute to scientific manuscripts and abstracts. Completes other activities as delegated by the PI and the project director

     Position Requirements:

    Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of previous human subjects research experience.  Effective written and verbal communication skills. Willing to work flexible hours Proficient with computer applications; experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred; Experience with SPSS    and REDCAP would be ideal Must be able to work efficiently, follow-through with assignments independently, with excellent attention to detail as well as strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and analytic skills. 30-40 hours per week.

    *Working Conditions: Occasional early evening and weekend data collection days.

    *Location: Will be housed in the Sleep Disorders and Research Center located at 600 S Paulina Suite 6 South, Chicago, IL 60612.

    Learning Sciences Research Institute: Project READI

    Project READI in the Learning Science Research Institute is seeking up to 3 part-time, hourly Office Assistants.

    This is a 10 hour per week position with additional hours available up to 20 per week.

    Project READI is an IES funded 5-year grant under the reading for understanding (rfu) umbrella. Project READI is a multi-institution, multi-disciplinary collaboration designed to develop instructional interventions that support adolescent learners in developing reading for understanding in three content areas – literature, science, and history. Project READI focuses on reading for understanding as the capacity to engage evidence-based argumentation drawing on content from multiple texts. We are developing interventions in three disciplinary content areas – literary analysis, history, and science – across grades 6 – 12.

    Responsibilities for this position include:

    .         Management of data for several thousand students, including scanning, photocopying, labeling, and filing.

    .         Data entry using Microsoft Excel.

    .         Coding of data using a structured codebook. 

    .         Other duties as needed.

    This position is ideal for an undergraduate in education or social sciences who is interested in classroom-based research and has or wants some experience with office work. Strong attention to detail and proficiency in basic Microsoft Office

    software are required.

    The Department of Managerial Studies, College of Business Administration is looking for a junior undergraduate student to provide general office and communications support. The student should have good written communication and organizational skills. Availability to work during the summer is required.

    GENERAL DUTIES: Include filing, answering phones, preparing reports and mailings for supervisors, distributing office mail, operating a Xerox machine, maintenance of filing and record-keeping systems under supervision, Internet research as needed, update website, monitor office supplies needs, and special projects as assigned.

    HOURS: 15-18 hours/week between 8:45-4:45 pm. Must be able to work a minimum of a 3-4 hour block during the day and work during the summer.

    The Institute for Health Research and Policy (IHRP) in the School of Public Health is searching for an undergraduate student employee (up to 20 hours per week) to work as a General Office Assistant to assist with filing in the financial operations area of the Administration team.     The Center for Research on Health and Aging (CRHA) at the Institute for Health Research and Policy (IHRP) currently has a General Office Assistant position for a part-time (20 hours per week) undergraduate student worker.

    The undergraduate student worker will assist with the financial running of the Center as well as project/grant related documents pertaining to the Center’s research.

    Financial tasks for the position include TEM and I-Buy processing, organizing financial records, data entry, scheduling, mailing, filing, making copies/scanning, faxing, running errands, and other assigned duties.

    Research project tasks for the position include internet journal searches, designing and editing project tables, graphs, and reports.

    This is an excellent opportunity to learn the business side of research.

    Position Requirements:

    •          Experience with MS Office software - Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint
    •          Professional interpersonal manner, reliable and responsible
    •          Excellent writing and communication skills
    •          Good organizational skills
    •          Excellent attention to detail
    •          One year of work experience in an office setting is required
    •          Ability to follow directions and work independently
    •          Team player
    •          Previous experience working with TEM and I-Buy at UIC is a plus, but not required
    •          The ideal candidate should be available for at least  6 months to one year

  • Write for UIC News!

    UIC News is seeking student contributors to write stories for our weekly Student Voice page. We will occasionally email story ideas to our contributors to select from on a first-come, first-served basis. We also accept story ideas and submissions from contributors.

    UIC News is also accepting applications for two interns to add a student voice to its work in news and social media for the fall semester. It's a great opportunity to gain experience writing for print and online, including news and feature writing, video and social media. Applicants should have experience in writing for publications (online or print) and an interest in journalism. Video and photography skills are a plus. Interns must enroll in an internship course (in the English department or LAS) for elective credit.

    We will also be accepting applications for weekly bloggers to share their experiences as UIC students starting over the summer or fall semester. Bloggers are required to post once per week and are paid $50 per month. View examples at http://iam.uic.edu
