We invite undergraduate students with excellent math and communication skills to become learning assistants in courses from Math 090 through Math 181. Preference is given to admitted Math, MCS, and MathEd majors, but others are encouraged to apply. A Math Department faculty recommendation is requested. For full consideration, apply by May 4, 2018.
This is a weekly commitment of at least seven hours:
- attendance of one hour each MWF in the classroom;
- a scheduled two-hour drop-in session each week for students in the Math Learning Center;
- a weekly content and pedagogy meeting with the course coordinator and other learning assistants;
- new learning assistants must participate in MTHT 491, Teaching Fellowship in Undergraduate Mathematics, an unpaid one credit-hour semester-long course that is offered only on Thursdays at 3-4 p.m.
Compensation is $10.00/hour. An application is attached (see Additional Resources) to this message and is available by request to dlevin6@uic.edu.
