    Student Leadership Development and Volunteer Services (SLDVS) is excited to bring you the Blaze Leadership Experience for the fall semester!

    BLAZE is a capstone leadership experience for students graduating within the next year. During BLAZE, students will participate in the Student Leadership Practices Inventory and receive one-on-one coaching from facilitators as they clarify their mission, vision, and values. BLAZE meets once-a-week for eight weeks. Are you ready to accept the Blaze Leadership Challenge?

    Requirements:

    Must be a UIC student graduating within the next year.Must commit to attend every Blaze session on Monday nights from 4pm-6pm starting September 19 and ending November 7.Unfortunately, due to the nature of our program, if you have a class/work/personal conflict that overlaps with our program schedule, you are not eligible to apply for the program.

    A Round Table on Anti-racist and Activist Creative Writing Pedagogy

  • Art Institute of Chicago: Summer Academy and Curatorial Fellowship, Apply by 4/7

    The Art Institute of Chicago has just launched a new student opportunity, the Andrew W. Mellon Summer Academy and Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship. This program is funded by the Mellon foundation and seeks to begin to diversify the pipeline in the arts by focusing on the curatorial profession in US museums. Similar programs will take place at five partner museums across the country. This is an exceptional opportunity for motivated undergraduates who have an interest in curatorial work or in finding out more about professions in art museums.
     
    The ideal student applicant will be a rising sophomore or junior at the end of this school year, although we also encourage applications from non-traditional students who may be in school for more than 4 years.

    The Arts of Life (http://artsoflife.org/) is a Chicago organization comprised of two professional arts studios working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  They have an ongoing need for volunteers and (un-paid) interns.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students of all academic backgrounds to participate in volunteer activities benefiting the disabled populations in Chicago.

  • ASAM Undergraduate General Office Aide Position Available for Spring 2016

    Provide administrative support for the Asian American Studies Program. This position pays $10/hour and is intended to be 8-12 hours/week for spring2016 with the possibility of continuing through summer 2016 and beyond.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    - filing and maintaining confidential records

    - updating budget spreadsheets

    - staffing on-campus events

    - inventorying office supplies

    - running errands across campus

    - photocopying

    - checking/sorting mail

    - handling phone and in-person inquiries

    Qualifications:One year of work experience either on- or off-campus, ideally in an office setting. Must be a mature and responsible self-starter. Familiarity with Google Drive preferred.

    To apply, email jhuynh@uic.edu with 1) your resume, 2) an explanation of why this position interests you and what your qualifications are, and 3) your full MWF availability the week of November 9 and 16 for a 20-minute interview. The position is open until filled, but review of applications will begin Wednesday, November 4.

    Note: This position is part of the AANAPISI Educational Employment Grant program offered by the UIC AANAPISI Initiative, Student Employment, and the Career Services Office. Concurrent to their employment, student employees, along with their supervisors, will engage in a guided career development framework aimed at building lifelong career skills to support lifelong professional success. The UIC AANAPISI Initiative is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education¹s Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Program.

    Eligibility: Due to the federal funding restrictions for the UIC AANAPISI Initiative, student employees must be non-international undergraduate UIC students who are enrolled (part-time or full-time) during the academic year. In the summer, students do not have to be enrolled as long as they were enrolled in spring and will be enrolled in the fall. While students who have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (http://www.uic.edu/depts/oaa/diversity/sdsb.html) are eligible for student employment at UIC, we regret that DACA students are not eligible for employment in this program.

    The UIC Asian American Studies Program is pleased to announce the ASAM Undergraduate Research / Arts Grants Program for 2014-2015. These competitive grants of up to $1000 are designed to facilitate and encourage Asian American and Pacific Islander students to pursue independent research and/or creative-arts projects OR to facilitate projects by any undergraduate student focusing on Asian American or Pacific Islander topics.

    If interested, find a faculty mentor, develop your idea, and submit your proposal by Monday, November 3rd.

You will also get to meet members of Asian American Student organizations and learn more about their orgs and how to become a member.   • Asian American Studies Undergraduate Research Position, Application Review Begins 1/13

    Are you interested in the social sciences, higher education, and/or career development? Do you enjoy research and have experience utilizing online databases, such as ERIC and JSTOR?

    Become an undergraduate research assistant in Asian American Studies and report to Jill Huynh, Assistant Director.

    This project focuses on the career development of Asian American students at UIC and other institutions, including, but not limited to, those who are involved in Asian American Studies (ASAM) or related ethnic studies programs. Specifically, we will examine 1) what on- and off-campus career resources target Asian American students and/or ASAM students during and after college, and 2) what professions, career fields, and graduate programs Asian American and/or ASAM alumni have gone on to pursue.

    This position pays $10/hour for 8-12 hours/week.

    The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) provides college scholarships to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) with financial need. 

    Award Amount: $2,500 - $15,000
    Deadline: Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:59pm EST

    Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

    • Be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by the U.S. Census
    • Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply
    • Be enrolling as an undergraduate student in a U.S. accredited college or university in the Fall of 2015. Please read the scholarships by supporter details below for specific eligibility requirements regarding the academic standing required for each scholarship.
    • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) or have earned a GED
    • Must apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    • Submit one letter of recommendation online.
