    A significant advantage of being in the Honors College is access to money to support your undergraduate research. Please see your faculty research advisor right away and start now to write your applications for several grants-in-aid, which are all due Monday, October 13, 2014. All applications must be supported by a letter from your research faculty advisor. 

    (1) Research grants: All forms of scholarship are supported for up to $1,000, including senior Capstone theses, for expenditures incurred since January 1, 2014, or those anticipated for projects planned for Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters. The money will fund student research or other creative or scholarly activity (but not student stipends).

    (2) Travel grants: Proposals will be considered for expenses associated with presentation of research at conferences (e.g., flight, hotel, poster preparation costs) up to $500.

    Whether you are conducting scientific experiments, lab research, or surveys; analyzing data from field work such as participant observation or in-depth interviews; or exploring historical archives, you may apply for funding to support your research, attend professional conferences, pay for your Research Forum poster, etc.

    Whether you are conducting scientific experiments, lab research, or surveys, whether you are analyzing data from field work such as participant observation or in-depth interviews, creating a set for a play, designing a building, or exploring historical archives, you may apply for funding to support your research, attend professional conferences, pay for your Research Forum poster, and so on.

The scholarships are available in awards ranging from $500 to $2,500. To be eligible to apply for the scholarships, students must apply to a study abroad program endorsed by the UIC Campus and be a member of the Honors College. A cumulative UIC grade point average of 3.40 upon application for the scholarships is required. The deadline for programs taking place in Summer and Fall 2016 is Friday, March 18, 2016.     Each semester, Honors College students with a UIC GPA of at least 3.5 are eligible to compete for a limited number of tuition waivers offered by the Honors College. Students are awarded these waivers based on a combination of merit and need. The Spring 2017 Tuition Waiver application deadline is December 12, 2016.   • Honors College Spring 2019 Tuition Award – Application Deadline: Nov 5

  • Honors College Student Engagement Grant Available

    Will you be involved in community service or leadership activities on- or off-campus this year?  Do you have a novel idea for an innovative engagement project that will positively impact others?  Apply for an Honors College Student Engagement Grant to help you on your way.  
    Through the generosity of donors, the UIC Honors College is able to offer financial awards to encourage enriching educational experiences that complement students' academic experience.  Grants will typically be $500 or less, but students may request a higher amount when a suitable and compelling rationale is provided.  Costs that may qualify for support might include (but are not limited to): supplies for engaged activities and projects, registration fees and travel for leadership conferences, costs associated with volunteer work, costs associated with the design construction and implementation of technology aimed at solving societal problems, materials for a meaningful event, or start-up funds for a new service-oriented student organization. 
    Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the year's allotment of funding is depleted.  So the earlier you apply, the better your chances of being funded.  A link to the application can be found below:

  • Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship, Due Fri. 3/21

    The UIC Honors College offers two scholarships for students to help defray costs associated with participation in international study. Students may submit one application to be considered for both awards; however, students may only be awarded one Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship. 

    FLAHERTY SCHOLARSHIP: Flaherty Scholarships for study abroad are made possible by a gift from the estate of Gloria Flaherty, former professor of German at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Flaherty Scholarships are available in awards ranging from $500 to $1,500 to students applying for summer, semester, or full academic year international study programs. Scholarships awarded in Spring 2014 can be used for Summer or Fall 2014 semester programs. Please note that students may only receive the Flaherty Scholarships for one study abroad experience.

    DEAN'S SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDY ABROAD: The UIC Honors College offers Dean's Scholarships for Study Abroad to promote international educational experiences to a broad range of students. Students from diverse backgrounds and/or with demonstrated financial need are encouraged to apply. Dean's Scholarships for Study Abroad are available in awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 to students applying for summer, semester or full academic year international study programs. Scholarships awarded in Spring 2014 can be used for Summer or Fall 2014 semester programs.

    To be eligible to apply for both the Flaherty Scholarship and the Dean's Scholarship for Study Abroad, students must meet the following criteria:

    • Apply to a study abroad program endorsed by the UIC campus
    • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.40
    • Be in good standing in the Honors College
    • Have demonstrated financial need (Dean's Scholarship ONLY)

    Thinking about studying abroad in spring 2016? The Honors College has scholarships to make your dreams a reality. Two different types of scholarships are available and the deadline for application is October 24, 2015.     The Dean’s Scholarship:

    The UIC Honors College offers Dean’s Scholarships for Study Abroad which are available in awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 for students with demonstrated financial need.     The Honors College is pleased to announce the availability of the Honors College Undergraduate Research Grants to support your undergraduate research or other scholarly projects. Please see your faculty research advisor right away and start on your applications for several grants-in-aid, which are all due on-line Friday, February 27, 2015.   • Honors Summer Housing Scholarship Due Mon. 5/5

    We are pleased to announce that the Honors College is able to offer a limited number of Honors Summer Housing Scholarships on a competitive basis. These housing scholarships will cover the cost of a double room in either TBH or MRH (apartment-style housing on the South Campus) for the period of the eight-week summer session (June 16-August 8, 2014). There are no regular dining services during the summer, so the housing scholarship recipients will need to provide for their own meals. In order to qualify, applicants must be engaged in either a UIC summer course(s) or faculty-supervised research on our campus. 

    To apply, please write a personal statement of up to 1 page (double spaced) in which you explain what you will be doing during the period of the 8-week summer session and its relevance for your academic or pre-professional goals. Please also attach supporting documentation. (For example, if you are taking a class, attach a copy of your enrollment verification. If you are doing faculty supervised research, attach the email or other agreement that verifies the arrangement (this could be an email already exchanged, or a short email for this specific purpose).) Feel free to include in your statement any additional personal or financial information that might be relevant to the Honors College when selecting those most deserving of a summer housing scholarship. 

    Hurry: applications are due immediately! Email the application to Associate Dean Sara Hall at sahall@uic.edu by 8 am on Monday, May 5th. Use the subject line: SUMMER HOUSING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION. 

    This scholarship only covers housing and does NOT cover the cost of food, or tuition for enrollment in a course, or transportation to research sites, or research supplies, etc. 

    Students receiving this scholarship will be expected to give back to the community of the Honors College and UIC Summer College by helping welcome students and prepare welcoming materials on select dates in July and early August, barring conflicts with class and research schedules.

  • Honors Summer Housing Scholarships, Apply by Thurs. 4/30

    I’m delighted to announce that the Honors College is again able to award a number of Honors Summer Housing Scholarships on a competitive basis this summer! You may apply for a housing scholarship to cover part of your housing in a double room in either TBH or MRH (apartment-style housing on the South Campus) for either the 4-week, 8-week, or entire 12-week 2015 summer session. Also, UIC Housing has also agreed to supplement this award with discounts for Honors students who are selected for this award. So, here are the available scholarships and discounts, which represents a substantial discount for summer housing:

    4-WEEK SESSION: $500 Honors College award plus $100 Housing discount 8-WEEK SESSION: $1000 Honors College award plus $200 Housing discount 12-WEEK SESSION: $1500 Honors College award plus $300 Housing discount

    Applicants must be engaged in either a UIC summer course(s) or faculty-supervised research at UIC.

    To apply, please write a personal statement of up to 1 page (single-spaced) in which you

    (a) specify which award you want (4, 8, or 12 weeks);

    (b) explain exactly what you will be doing during the period of the summer session and its relevance for your academic or pre-professional goals

    (c) provide personal or financial information justifying your level of financial need for this award (whether you would not be able to conduct the activity otherwise, whether the cost of the alternative commute or campus housing would constitute a hardship in any way, etc.)

    Also attach supporting documentation such as a copy of your class enrollment verification, or brief note or email exchange from faculty member supervising your research.

  • Illinois Dream Fund Scholarship Deadline Extended to 3/15

    The Illinois Dream Fund Scholarship seeks to create access to financial resources to further growth and development for the immigrant leaders of tomorrow and provides scholarships to undocumented students. Applicants must be incoming freshmen, current undergraduates and transfer students who possess at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4 point scale).   • Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation Scholarship, Due Thurs. 10/1

    Each year, the members of the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation (ILLCF) select deserving young people of good character and high academic achievement to receive Foundation scholarships to help them achieve their educational objectives. This year, approximately twenty-five scholarships of $2,000 each will be granted to undergraduate college students whose home residence is in Illinois. An application form can be downloaded from the ILLCF web-site (www.illcf.org). The deadline for application is Thursday, October 1, 2015, and scholarships will be awarded on November 20, 2015, during the ILLCF scholarship luncheon at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

  • James Madison Memorial Fellowship for teachers Info Session, Tues. 1/20

    The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers $24,000 James Madison Graduate Fellowships to individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary school level.

    To be eligible to apply for a fellowship, you must: Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national. Be a teacher, or plan to become a teacher, of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7–12). Possess a bachelor's degree or plan to receive a bachelor's degree no later than August 31 of the year in which you are applying.

    Professional Teaching Obligation: After receiving the master's degree, each Fellow must teach American history, American government, or social studies in grades 7–12 for one full year for each academic year of funding received under a fellowship, preferably in the state from which the recipient won the fellowship

    The J.W. Saxe Memorial Fund provides scholarships annually to one or more undergraduate or graduate students working in public service.
