  • Honors Capstone General Information Workshops, Fri. 4/24 and Mon. 4/27

    The General Capstone Information Session provides an opportunity for you to learn more about the Capstone requirement, brainstorm possible topics or ideas for your Capstone, and talk with an Honors College Associate Dean or Postdoctoral Fellow about your Capstone.  This workshop is intended for everyone from Seniors starting on their Capstones now to freshman who want to learn more about the requirement to be prepared in the future.

  • Tickets on Sale for the 22nd Annual Honors College Ball! Sat. 3/7

    Last week to buy your ticket to the 22nd Annual Honors College Ball!

    - Student tickets are $50 each, payable by check or cash.  The evening includes dinner, free soft drinks, a silent auction, and dancing! 

    - Students are welcome to purchase tickets for guests not affiliated with the Honors College.

    - Tickets will be on sale until they sell out.  Last year's ball sold out over a week in advance, so do not wait!!  

    To purchase your tickets, please come to the Honors College during the hours of 10am and 2pm.  Find the ticket sales booth in the student lounge, or ask for Sarah Gardiner!

The Honors College is excited to announce the Fall 2016 Honors College Research Symposium. This will be a poster presentation event where Honors College students can present their research.

  • Observe a Mock Medical School Interview, Wed. 9/17

    Professor Timothy Murphy from the UIC College of Medicine will conduct a mock medical school admissions interview in front of an audience to show an example of that important milestone in medical school admissions.  The first part of the session will include an interview as nearly identical to the actual interview as possible.  The second part of the session will be an open forum for questions about admissions interviews and the application process in general.  Students who attend will have the opportunity to hear typical interview questions, listen to Professor Murphy’s feedback and appraisal of the mock applicant, and ask questions following the interview.

    Chicago Signature Honors Programming is a great way for UIC Honors students to experience cultural and educational opportunities outside of class at no cost to the student!   Check out the upcoming events!

    CHICAGO--ETA Creative Arts Foundation is proud to present Lines in the Dust, another Chicago Premiere by Pulitzer Prize nominated co-author, Nikkole Salter. When Denitra loses the charter school lottery for her daughter, she must find another way to escape from their underperforming neighborhood school. The answer seems like a risk well worth taking, but may end up requiring a bigger sacrifice than she ever could have imagined. It’s been over a half-century since Brown vs. The Board of Education. Lines in the Dust, questions how far we’ve come and more importantly, where we go from here.

  • Faculty-Led Study Abroad Summer Internship, Paris, Info Session on Tues. 2/24

    This summer (June 15 – July 15, 2015), Professor Kathryn Engel will lead a group of students to participate in UIC credit-bearing internships in Paris, France.  Internships are available to students in all majors, and participants will earn 6 credits of PSCH 385.  Participants must have knowledge of basic French language.

     Come to an information session this Tuesday (tomorrow!), 2/24/15, from 11:00-12:00 in 502 UH to learn more and ask questions.

    Tickets for the Honors College Ball are on sale now thru February 19th. Tickets sell fast, so get yours early!

    Tickets will be sold in the Honors College Student Lounge (109 Burnham Hall) from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday - Friday. Remember, this event is open to all UIC students, faculty, and staff. Guests do not have to be affiliated with UIC; however, a UIC member must sponsor the purchase. In other words, outside guests cannot purchase a ticket for themselves.

    The ticket price includes dinner, dancing, unlimited soft drinks, and photo booth! Cash or check is accepted. Please make checks payable to the University of Illinois at Chicago.

    General Student tickets are $50 each
    Faculty/staff tickets are $90 each

    Also, UIC Campus Housing is offering a $10 discount to the ticket price for Honors College Housing students! There are a limited number of these tickets available and you must purchase the ticket through Housing’s online system, click here: http://www.housing.uic.edu/dock.

    After signing up, the discounted cost of the ticket ($40) will be charged to your university account. Honors College Housing students who wish to bring a guest(s) may purchase additional tickets in-person at the Honors College at the $50 student rate.

    As a reminder, the deadline for registering for the 2014 Student Research Forum is 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 24.  Registrations are taken on a first come, first served basis until all slots are filled.  Please note that this may mean we will run out of space prior to the March 24 deadline so we encourage you to submit as soon as possible.  Only 250 spots remain.

    What? Charles Gounod’s operatic adaptation of Shakespeare’s iconic play, Romeo and Juliet

    When? Thursday, February 25th at 2:00pm (an afternoon performance)

    Where? Lyric Opera of Chicago, Civic Opera Building, 20 N. Upper Wacker Dr.

    Why? It’s the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, and Chicago is celebrating the life and work of The Bard with a number of performances and adaptations of his work this year. The tale of star-crossed lovers is perfect for an operatic adaptation, and the music is stunning.

  • Publications Release Party, Wed. 4/13

    Join us in celebrating the release of the latest edition of each of the Honors College student-run publications at the annual Publication Release Party!  

    The Publication Release Party will be held on Wednesday, April 13 from 4 – 5:30 pm in the Honors College Student Lounge (Room 109 Burnham Hall).  The newest edition of each of the Honors College publications will be available, including:

    The Ampersand, the official student-run Honors College newsletter

    The Asterisk, a political satire newsletter

    The Journal for Pre-Health Affiliated Students, a journal focused on topics related to the health professions

    Red Shoes Review, a literary and arts magazine

    UIC OneWorld, a social justice and global affairs magazine

    The Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research Journal, an online open-access undergraduate research journal
