The UIC Honors College mourns the loss of Ruth George: student, classmate, and friend. Ruthie was, in the words of her Honors College advisor, “friendly, passionate, and dedicated,” whose smile lit up the room and whose absence now darkens our community with sadness. All of us in the Honors College send our sincerest condolences to Ruth’s family, friends, classmates and instructors.
In light of these events, the Honors College wishes to offer a safe space for Honors College students to gather to process the events of the past week. Please join us on Today, Tuesday, December 3rd, from 11:30am to 1:30pm, in the Quiet Study Room (121 BH). Counseling staff will be available.
While there have been opportunities this week to come together to grieve the loss of Ruth, we recognize that our emotions evolve, especially in difficult times. Whether you were able to attend the Community Gathering or the Vigil, or this is your first chance to talk to others about this tragic event, we encourage you to come together and support one another–especially as we head into the end of the term and finals week.
In addition to providing a place to remember Ruth and talk about the effect of her death on us, we will provide a memory board to share your thoughts and condolences for her friends and family.
