If you are completing a service as your Honors Activity this semester, this message is for you!
Not sure? Read about service activities here: https://honors.uic.edu/academics/honors-activity-options/.
Students must spend a minimum of 45 hours per semester for the service to be deemed an Honors Activity. Service activity hours should take place with only one organization. This includes, but is not limited to, students completing service in the areas of: Tutoring/Mentoring, Volunteering, and Student Organization or Publication Leadership. The maximum number of service activities performed for HON 222 credit (Honors Units) is limited to one across all years in the Honors College. Service activities do not need to be tied to students’ majors but can provide a means to explore new areas and issues. Service activities must be unpaid. Activities can be performed either on or off campus.
The following must be completed in order to earn Honors Units for your service activity for Spring 2019 (in addition to completing 45 hours of service and registering for HON 222). There are additional goal requirements beyond the submission of Agreement and Completion Forms, and the additional tasks are marked in bold in the outline below.
For all Service Honors Activities (in addition to registering for HON 222):
- Complete and submit Honors Activity Agreement Form to the Honors College front desk: 4pm on 2/1/19
- Complete and submit the Service Learning Goals Form: 5pm on 3/1/19
- Complete and submit the Service Learning Goals Assessment Form: 5pm on 5/3/19
- Complete and submit Honors Activity Completion Form to the Honors College front desk: 4pm on 5/10/19
Students who submit signed agreement and completion forms for a service activity but who do not complete the additional requirements will receive a “DFR” for HON 222 for the semester and may be placed on Honors Activity probation for the spring semester.
These additional requirements should not add a lot to your plate, but if you have any questions or concerns, please talk to your Honors Advisor.
