Dear Honors College Seniors,
From the moment last month that we shut down our on-campus operations, I knew that nothing would be the same for the rest of the semester. While the health and safety of everyone has been our top concern, safeguarding that has come at the cost of everything that had been planned, including Convocation, where we celebrate the remarkable achievements of our soon-to-be graduates-you.
Although the Honors College Convocation is postponed until a time when it's safe to have large gatherings on campus again, we do not want to end the semester without recognizing all you've done as members of the College. Thus UIC is arranging for virtual celebrations for all the colleges: for us, this will include messages from the administration and a student speaker, announcements of faculty awards, and most importantly, recognition of each member of the Honors College Class of 2020.
You should by now have received an email from Nikki Andrae describing the virtual event, and an invitation from MarchingOrder to create a personalized slide to mark this occasion. Please notice the RSVP deadline of April 23rd (Thursday) if you wish your slide to include a reading of your name. We want you to be part of this because it's a record of your achievements while at UIC.
The virtual ceremony will be available online Saturday, May 16th. It's important for all of us in the Honors College that you and your families know how proud we are of your accomplishments, and this is the only way available to us under the circumstances. If you have questions, please contact Associate Dean Stacie McCloud at smccloud@uic.edu<mailto:smccloud@uic.edu>.
I hope you are doing well and finishing the semester in good health and spirits.
Sincerely,
Ralph Keen
