MSI Graduate Student Weekend is a yearly event hosted by the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) and Penn Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE). This weekend is all-expenses paid and provides undergraduate students from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) with an opportunity to get more information on pursuing graduate and professional degrees in education. During this time, students participate in professional development and educational sessions all meant to inspire, inform, and prepare students for the graduate school process. Join us for a general information session about the new masters programs offered by the UIC Liautaud Graduate School of Business. The three new programs that will be highlighted are the One Year MBA program, the Master of Science in Business Analytics, and the Master of Science in Finance. This information session will start with a brief presentation from Admissions representatives and will follow up with an open Q&A with all Liautaud staff. Refreshments will be served. This Saturday, October 11^th, Kaplan will be sponsoring a free time and proctored LSAT here at UIC at 10am.  This is an opportunity open to all students, but particularly Sophomores and Juniors (or Seniors who are applying after they graduate) to get an idea of what it would be like to sit for an actual LSAT and get a sense of how much work they will need to put into studying over the next few semesters to be properly prepared for the LSAT when it’s time for you to actually take it.  Sign-up for this event will be directly through Kaplan at the below link:  Please register at bit.ly/UICFPT2014 or contact Brittnee Musser at brittnee.musser@kaplan.com

The second event will be a workshop on learning the LSAT entitled the LSAT Challenge Workshop.  On Tuesday October 28^th  Kaplan will be hosting a workshop to learn more about the questions you will see on the LSAT, determine your natural strengths weaknesses, and discover ways to maximize the effectiveness of your studying. The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, is now accepting applications for two education programs for college students and recent graduates: the 2016 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program and the 2016-17 Yiddish Book Center Fellowship Program. 

The Steiner Summer Yiddish Program is an intensive seven-week course in Yiddish language and culture for college students. The program offers a beginner track for students with no previous Yiddish experience and an intermediate track for those who have completed one year of Yiddish. In addition to their classes, students take part in cultural and social activities, including film screenings, concerts, workshops, and a trip to New York City. Beginner students take a course in Central and Eastern European Yiddish history, literature, and culture, while intermediate students work as interns on the Center’s major projects, including translation and oral history.

All Steiner students receive full-tuition scholarships. Intermediate students also receive free housing and a $1,000 internship stipend. All participants are eligible to receive college credits through the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The 2016 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program will run from June 5 to July 22. Applications are due by February 8, 2016. For more information, visit yiddishbookcenter.org/steiner-summer-yiddish-program.

The Yiddish Book Center Fellowship Program offers recent college graduates with intermediate or advanced Yiddish skills an opportunity to develop professional experience while working as full-time members of the Center's staff. 

Fellows serve as teaching assistants for college-level Yiddish classes, conduct interviews for the Center’s Wexler Oral History Project, develop educational and exhibit materials, assist with translation or online accessibility initiatives, and do bibliographic work with the Center’s collection of books. With the support of mentors, Fellows also apply their ingenuity and personal expertise to the creation of new projects.

Fellows receive a $30,000 stipend and health insurance. The next Fellowship Program runs from September 2016 to August 2017. Applications are due by January 4. For more information, visit yiddishbookcenter.org/fellowship-program.

ACRE (Artists’ Cooperative Residency and Exhibitions) is a volunteer-run non-profit based in Chicago devoted to employing various systems of support for emerging artists and to creating a generative community of cultural producers. ACRE investigates and institutes models designed to help artists develop, present, and discuss their practices by providing forums for idea exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experimental projects.

ACRE’s residency takes place each year outside of rural Steuben, Wisconsin. There, several dozen emerging artists from all over the US join a staff of dedicated volunteers and visiting luminaries. The residency is a time to meet and form collaborations with like-minded peers, make work, learn new skills, and discuss ideas with a group of dedicated, talented makers.  Please find tons of logistical information about the residency in this section, and specific information on how to apply in the application section.

A variety of scholarships are available. Artist Cooperative Residency and Exhibitions Project (ACRE) is overjoyed to announce The Boricua Scholarship, a recent scholarship addition designed to strengthen our ongoing commitment to diversity in all aspects of the organization. The Boricua Scholarship will enable an artist of Puerto Rican descent to attend the ACRE Residency free of charge. This includes food and lodging for the two-week residency period, as well as access to the myriad facilities and artist community enjoyed by ACRE Residents.

SPRING INTO SERVICE at the Leadership & Service Expo!

Do you want make a difference in the Chicago area? Well, this is a great opportunity to connect one-on-one with non-profit organizations and agencies to explore and make connections, as they are in need of your wonderful talents. Familiarize with agencies of interest to you: ranging from youth, human rights, the arts, the environment, community development, and more!

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer program designed to provide undergraduate students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers. The Program usually selects 15-20 participants (known as “Rangel Scholars”) each year from universities throughout the United States. Students live at Howard University, attend classes, and participate in a variety of programs with foreign affairs professionals at Howard and at diverse locations around Washington, DC.

The Program has two major components. First, in order to enhance participants' academic preparation to work in international affairs, the Program provides two courses and a seminar that focus on enhancing knowledge and skills related to U.S. foreign policy, economics and writing. In addition, in order to provide greater insight into the foreign policy-making process and international affairs careers, the Rangel Program introduces the participants to a wide range of government and non-government professionals who work on global issues and also arranges visits to various institutions involved in international affairs. The Program also helps students explore graduate school, scholarship, fellowship, internship, and professional options in international affairs.

The Program covers the costs for tuition, travel, housing, and two meals per day. It also provides a stipend of $3,200. 

The tentative dates for the 2015 Summer Enrichment Program are June 22 -August 2, 2015.
