Julieanna Richardson is the Founder and the Executive Director of The HistoryMakers, the nation’s largest African American video oral history collection. By recording, preserving and sharing the life stories of thousands of African Americans, from President Barack Obama to the oldest living black cowboy, The HistoryMakers is a leader in helping to educate and enlighten millions worldwide through refashioning a more inclusive record of American history. Ms. Richardson has a diverse background in corporate law, television production and cable television. She is also the recipient of the UIC Great Cities Institute's first Vernon Jarrett Senior Fellowship in 2006.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9th: Alvin Ailey American Dance

“(Artistic Director Robert Battle) has already put his stamp on the company, having essentially taken it into the 21st century,” says the Chicago Tribune. Wheeldon. Dove. Naharin. McGregor. And of course – Ailey himself. Since Battle took over the company in 2011, these are just a few of the choreographers Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has presented during their annual residency on our historic stage. The Auditorium Theatre has been Ailey’s Chicago home for over 46 years, and we are proud to present America’s Cultural Ambassador to the World."

Due to the success of our Fall Semester workshop, United Capoeira Association-Chicago invites you again to experience the excitement of Capoeira. Capoeira is an African Brazilian martial art that incorporates self-defense with dance, music, and acrobatics. It crosses many facets of personal expression, while developing a strong sense of community. Brazilian native and Capoeira Master, Mestre Calango, and Dr. Lindsay will lead a fun and exciting introductory class that will cover the basic movements, history, and music. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes suitable for a full body workout. RSVP today!

CHICAGO--ETA Creative Arts Foundation is proud to present Lines in the Dust, another Chicago Premiere by Pulitzer Prize nominated co-author, Nikkole Salter. When Denitra loses the charter school lottery for her daughter, she must find another way to escape from their underperforming neighborhood school. The answer seems like a risk well worth taking, but may end up requiring a bigger sacrifice than she ever could have imagined. It’s been over a half-century since Brown vs. The Board of Education. Lines in the Dust, questions how far we’ve come and more importantly, where we go from here.
