Unity Hospice is seeking volunteers to visit our patients! We have patients located all over Chicagoland—in assisted living facilities, skilled nursing homes and private residences—who are waiting for your visit! Our volunteers are an essential part of our care team who provide much-needed social and emotional support to our patients. Our volunteers directly interact with our patients in a variety of ways—playing games, listening to music, reading aloud, going for walks, engaging in conversation, or providing a gentle and caring presence. Also, if you have a special talent (such as music or art) that you would like to share with our patients, we would love to work with you! In all cases, you may customize your visiting schedule based upon your schedule/previous commitments.
This is an excellent educational opportunity, allowing one to engage in direct patient care, develop engagement strategies and communication skills and become familiar with medical documentation and regulations. In addition, hospice volunteering may fulfill community service hours required by your classes/degree program and potentially establish professional connections necessary for future internships and/or employment. Most of all, this is an excellent personal opportunity; for volunteering with Unity Hospice will allow you to develop meaningful relationships and truly make a difference in the lives of our patients and families! You can help make someone’s last weeks/months some of their very best!!!
I would love to meet with you to discuss how to become a Unity Hospice volunteer!!! I’ll gladly come to campus to meet. Please contact me at cstewart@unityhospice.com or 312-427-6000. I look forward to meeting with you soon!
