  • Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award for outstanding senior, Apply by 10/2

    Each year, every four-year degree-granting higher education institution in Illinois chooses ONE senior to receive the prestigious Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award. Laureates are honored for their overall excellence in both curricular and co-curricular activities. Graduating seniors who have demonstrated leadership on campus are invited to self-nominate and apply for the award. To apply students will write a 500 word essay about their experiences at UIC and ask a professor, mentor, advisor, supervisor, colleague or other individual who can attest to the student's excellence to submit a nomination letter.

    The UIC Lincoln Student Laureate will be invited and required to attend a ceremony on November 1, 2014 in the House of Representatives of the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois. Each of the Student Laureates will receive a Lincoln Academy Medallion and a financial award.

  • Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award for an Outstanding Senior

    UIC nominates one outstanding senior each year for the Lincoln Academy Student Laureate award. One student will be selected and honored in Springfield on Saturday, November 12. According to Academy materials, "In the spirit of Lincoln, Student Laureates are honored for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities."

    The application deadline is Monday, October 10, 2016.

    Candidates must meet the following criteria:

    -Graduating in December 2016 or May of 2017

    -You must submit AT LEAST ONE AND UP TO EIGHT REFERENCES. You will submit their names and email addresses in the online application.  

    -You may nominate yourself or a faculty or staff member may nominate you. In both cases you must fill in the online application.

    -Involved in curricular and extra-curricular activities

    -Have a record of leadership

    -Made a contribution to UIC as an undergraduate

    -Strong academic record (no minimum GPA)

  • Fulbright Student Awards

    Interested in teaching English or conducting research overseas for a year after you graduate?  A strong Fulbright application requires a great deal of thinking, planning and writing. Summer is the perfect time to begin to prepare for the September deadline! 

    What is the Fulbright?

    • Immediately after World War II, Congress created the Fulbright Program to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange.
    • The U.S. Student Program awards approximately 1,800 grants annually and sends students to over 155 countries worldwide.
    • Students participate in a self-designed program of study that can include research, university coursework, language study and more. Alternatively, students can also choose to assist in teaching English in one of over 70 countries, at various levels.
    • Candidates must have US citizenship at time of application and a bachelor's degree before starting their service period. Bachelor’s holders are eligible to apply at any point in life after graduation. 

    Fulbright Full Grant vs. Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA)

    • Full Grant: requires a proposal of study or research that would take 10-12 months to perform. Some countries require knowledge of the language, others are flexible. Programs of study can include classes, research projects, library work, observations, training in the creative arts, surveys, lab work - in short, anything that would help a student study or learn more about the proposed topic.
    • ETA: offers students the chance to apply to teach English.  In some countries ETAs teach in a high school, in others elementary and in others at the college level. Language requirements vary from country to country, and many countries have no requirement. ETAs are generally students who have some teaching experience and believe that the ETA experience will help to prepare them for what they are doing in the future.

    What are the benefits?

    • These grants generally provide round-trip transportation, language or orientation courses, maintenance for the academic year (based on living costs in the host country), and supplemental health and accident insurance.
    • The Fulbright name is well respected in the U.S. and beyond. Past scholars have considered it an experience of a lifetime. They learn about new cultures or deepen their knowledge of one they already were acquainted with. They make new friends and engage in an in-depth teaching or learning experience that gives them depth of knowledge and skills in their chosen field, and helps set the stage for greater independence in their next career move. They develop a more sophisticated understanding of their host country, the U.S. and themselves.

    Becas Univision Scholarship Program

    As part of our Univision Educación campaign, Univision has launched, like we do every year, our highly anticipated program, Becas Univision in support of hispanic students.

    These scholarships are available for all latino students residing in the US. 34 students will receive a scholarship of $5k each

    Eligibility Requirements
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students, community college transfers and current college students
    • Be of Hispanic heritage
    • Must be 1st Generation to attend college (neither your mother nor your father has attended college)
    • Demonstrate financial need. This is determined based on your family income, number of people that reside in your household and the number of college students in your home.

  • APIASF AANAPISI Scholarship, Due Oct. 15

    The APIASF AANAPISI Scholarship application is now open!

    Last year 19 UIC students received generous scholarships from APIASF, and you could very well join their ranks.  The application is available here: https://aanapisischolarship.apiasf.org/.  Award amounts vary between $2500 - $5000.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    - Be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by the U.S. Census.

    -  Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply.

    - Have applied for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applicants do not necessarily need to be recipients of federal financial aid to be eligible for a scholarship from APIASF. Go to www.fafsa.gov for more information

    Please note the following:

    Full-time enrollment and degree-seeking status is defined by the guidelines set by the institution's Registrar's Office.

    Non-degree seeking students are NOT eligible to apply.

    Students who already have a bachelor's degree are NOT eligible to apply When you apply, you can be a part-time student, however, you must be enrolled full-time upon receipt of funding.

    Solely online students are not eligible to apply. If you are enrolled in online and on ground courses, no more than 1/2 of your courses can be online.

    The Study Abroad Office is proud to announce this new fellowship offered through our academic consortium partner The Council for International Educational Exchange [CIEE] and the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions.

    The fellowship will cover 100 percent of program fees and travel costs to study abroad for 4 weeks in London during the summer of 2017.

  • Honors College Research & Travel Grants (Deadline 2/26)

    A significant advantage of being in the Honors College is access to money to support your undergraduate research or other scholarly projects. Please see your faculty research advisor right away and start on your applications for several grants-in-aid, which are all due on-line Friday, February 26, 2016. All applications must be read by and supported by a letter from your research faculty advisor.

    (1) Research grants: All forms of scholarship are supported, including Capstone Projects. Maximum award is $1,000, for expenditures incurred since August 24, 2015 or anticipated for projects planned for current or planned research projects.     (2) Travel grants: Proposals will be considered for expenses associated with presentation of research at conferences (e.g., flight, hotel, poster preparation costs) up to $500. Please submit your application here: https://uic.academicworks.com/opportunities/1815

    Whether you are conducting scientific experiments, lab research, or surveys, whether you are analyzing data from field work such as participant observation or in-depth interviews, creating a set for a play, designing a building, or exploring historical archives, you may apply for funding to support your research, attend professional conferences, pay for your Research Forum poster, and so on. 

    Please read the award announcements carefully, and follow instructions for submission of rationale and methods, detailed budget and budget justification, letter of support, and so on. Submit your completed online application--include support letter--by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016. The online system will be terminated at that time and no late applications will be accepted.

    UIC Student Affairs is pleased to announce the annual Maurice Prize Competition. The competition is intended to foster innovation, creativity, originality, ingenuity and resourcefulness among undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Chicago. These elements are achieved through students undertaking projects of their own choosing and executing a strategy to address their issue while applying their own knowledge, creative use of resources, and the ability to work with others to find solutions.

    The individual winner or team demonstrating the deepest learning and problem solving receives a $5,000.00 award. For more information about the Maurice Prize Competition, eligibility details, and to obtain the Letter of Intent to participate in the competition, students must login on the UIC SnAP, campus-wide scholarship management system atuic.academicworks.com.

    This year the Scholarship Association for UIC will be providing seventeen (17) scholarships for currently enrolled UIC students ranging in value from $400 to $2,000. Awards are generally for students of any major and also include recognition for academic achievement, campus and community involvement and financial need.
