  • Internship in Medical Social Sciences

    We are looking for a volunteer intern to join our research team in assisting with a research project at the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. This opportunity would be a great fit for anyone interested in pursuing medical school or graduate programs in psychology, behavioral health, or public health. Through this internship, you will gain hands-on experience working with experts in the field, and you will have access to Northwestern’s state-of-the art research facilities. You will also have the chance to develop and refine your research skills.

    The study with which the intern would be assisting are part of the Biopsychosocial Mechanisms and Health Outcomes Program.  The primary project for which we currently need volunteers involves a technology-based psychosocial intervention for men with advanced prostate cancer. 

    The intern will assist with various tasks in support of the study, including:

    Reviewing patient medical records (usually electronic) Screening these records for participant eligibility Sending letters and making phone calls to recruit potential participants Conducting phone screeners potential participants Making follow-up calls Preparing study materials (i.e. paper assessment forms, saliva sample kits, etc.) Data extraction from participant medical charts Other required data entry Miscellaneous tasks as needed

    Interested individuals must commit 12 hours per week, which can be split among 2 or 3 days, depending on your schedule.  We request that you make a commitment of at least 6 months for this position. Please note that you will be working on-site in our research office, located in the Streeterville area of Chicago. Interest in psychological, social and/or medical research is preferred; prior experience working with cancer patients is ideal. Spanish language skills are also preferred but not required.   • Internship in Medical Social Sciences Research at Northwestern University

    INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY IN MEDICAL SOCIAL SCIENCES

    We are looking for a volunteer intern to join our research team in conducting various research projects at the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. The studies the intern would be assisting with are part of the Biobehavioral Mechanisms and Health Outcomes Program. Studies within this program primarily focus on understanding the Hispanic breast cancer patient’s cultural and psychosocial experience in order to improve treatment self-management following active breast cancer treatment and reduce disparities in cancer outcomes. 

    This intern would assist with various tasks in support of multiple studies with Hispanic breast cancer patients. Some of the tasks include reviewing patient records, screening, recruiting, consenting and completing assessments with patients, managing and aiding in the analysis of data, translating study materials into Spanish, and aiding in the development and implementation of an eHealth intervention.

    Interested students would need to commit to coming into the lab for two to three days per week (12 hours weekly) for a period of at least a semester. Spoken and written fluency in Spanish is required; having research, psychological, social and/or medical interests is preferred. Training in medical language in English and Spanish will be provided.     The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) presents entertaining and smart programming about ideas that matter. But we do more than that. We shape ideas, helping our audiences see the world anew. We help them challenge the boundaries of contemporary knowledge and culture. We help them understand what it means to be human.

    Currently, CHF is recruiting winter/spring interns for the Marketing, Development, Programing, Production and Web/Multi-Media departments. Attached is the internship application form and description internships available for 2017 winter/spring session.    

    Interns are a vital component of our staff, we offer several project-based internships during three internship sessions (summer/fall/spring). The internship program requires a commitment of 14-21 hours a week for 3 to 9 months (a 9 month internship is preferred, but a minimum commitment of 3 months is required). The winter/spring internship starts Late January or early February, 2017 through late May 2017.  We are more than happy to accommodate variations on those dates.

    Rape Victim Advocates (RVA) is looking for interns for a position beginning this summer and extending next year in their Advocacy Program.

    Accepted candidates will attend summer training beginning July 25th– August 29th, every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 5:30pm – 9:30pm.

    RVA is an independent, not‐for‐profit organization dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors through non‐judgmental crisis intervention counseling, individual and group counseling, and medical and legal advocacy in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. RVA provides public education and institutional advocacy in order to improve the treatment of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive change in policies and public attitudes toward sexual assault.

  • Internship: Society for Research in Child Development

    SRCD's DC Office Looking for Advanced Undergraduate Intern for Summer 2015!

    About SRCD: SRCD is a multidisciplinary, not-for-profit, professional association with a membership of approximately 6,000 researchers, practitioners, and child development professionals from over 50 countries. It was established in 1933 by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences. The Society’s goals are to promote multidisciplinary research in the field of child development, foster the exchange of information among scientists and other professionals in various disciplines, and encourage applications of research findings to improve the lives of children and families. SRCD publishes the premier journal in the field, Child Development, as well as Child Development Perspectives, Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development, and the Social Policy Report. The internship will be hosted by SRCD’s Office for Policy and Communications, which is located in Washington, DC.

    Intern Responsibilities: The SRCD Policy Intern would assist staff with a number of projects, including helping with these projects: Preparation of Policy Update, a monthly e-newsletter sent to SRCD members focusing on federal policy developments related to children and families

    Coordination of activities for the University-Based Child and Family Policy Consortium (a collaboration of approximately 35 universities with child and family policy programs) including contributing to the preparation of a quarterly e-newsletter and assisting in conducting and summarizing a survey of program directors to help identify priorities for the consortium

    Preparation of a summary of career- and training-related resources (that have already been gathered) for graduate students and early career scholars interested in careers focusing on policy-related child development research

    Conducting and summarizing the results of a survey focusing on opportunities and training needs of graduate students and early career scholars interested in policy-related child development research

    Qualifications: The SRCD office in Washington is recruiting an advanced undergraduate student who has had coursework related to child development and public policy. This person will need strong interpersonal, time management and research skills and must demonstrate computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. He/she will also need to be both flexible and proactive in his/her approach to work, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a small office environment. The ideal candidate will have had experience in conducting research, including developing and collecting data from questionnaires or surveys; coursework in research design and methodology; and some experience with data analysis.

    Compensation: The SRCD Policy Intern would be paid $12/hour. The internship entails 16 hours of paid work each week. The intern’s work schedule would be flexible and would be developed in conjunction with SRCD staff to accommodate his/her other summer commitments.

Possible projects include: updating our awards webpages, including Newbery and Caldecott sections, of the ALSC website with interesting and historical material (scanning/uploading photos, digitizing/uploading speeches, adding an FAQ section); create and converting manuals that exist as Word documents into Web-based documents; possible award-winning author/illustrator interviews.

    Day to day activities will include: curating our children’s book awards submissions collection by unpacking and shelving shipments; answering phone call from parents, educators, and the general public about ALSC’s award programs and other work; and retuning messages and inquiries from publishers.     A one-year internship with the Paris Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International (CSCI) is now available.

    If a student is hired by an NCI investigator as an intern, he/she will work under their direction and in concert with other researchers, fellows, and technicians.
