  This fellowship provides academic and practical training to prepare fellows for leadership roles in solving conflicts around the world.  Up to 100 fellows are selected every year based on personal, academic, and professional achievement.  Fellows earn a master's-level degree or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict studies at one of six Rotary Peace Centers at leading universities in Australia, England, Sweden, Japan, the United States and Thailand.

  The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer program designed to provide undergraduate students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers. The Program usually selects 15-20 participants (known as “Rangel Scholars”) each year from universities throughout the United States. Students live at Howard University, attend classes, and participate in a variety of programs with foreign affairs professionals at Howard and at diverse locations around Washington, DC.

  The Program has two major components. First, in order to enhance participants' academic preparation to work in international affairs, the Program provides two courses and a seminar that focus on enhancing knowledge and skills related to U.S. foreign policy, economics and writing. In addition, in order to provide greater insight into the foreign policy-making process and international affairs careers, the Rangel Program introduces the participants to a wide range of government and non-government professionals who work on global issues and also arranges visits to various institutions involved in international affairs. The Program also helps students explore graduate school, scholarship, fellowship, internship, and professional options in international affairs.

  The Program covers the costs for tuition, travel, housing, and two meals per day. It also provides a stipend of $3,200. 

  The tentative dates for the 2015 Summer Enrichment Program are June 22 -August 2, 2015.

  Programming Languages Mentoring Workshop 2016What is PLMW

  The Programming Languages Mentoring Workshop (PLMW) aims to encourage graduate students and senior undergraduate students to pursue careers in programming language research. The workshop brings together world leaders in programming languages research and teaching from academia and industry to provide (a) technical sessions on cutting­ edge PL research and (b) mentoring sessions on how to prepare for a research career. The workshop aims to engage students in a process of imagining how they might contribute to our research community. We especially encourage women and under-represented minority students to attend PLMW.

  After the resounding success of the first four Programming Languages Mentoring Workshops at POPL 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, we announce the 5th SIGPLAN Programming Languages Mentoring Workshop, co­-located with POPL 2016. POPL is the ACM’s flagship conference for foundational aspects of programming languages, and its 43rd edition will take place in Florida, USA next year. PLMW will be held immediately before POPL 2016, on Tuesday, January 19. We hope that participants will stay through the entire conference.

  Scholarship applications

  PLMW sponsors have generously donated scholarship funds for qualified students to attend PLMW. These scholarships should cover reasonable expenses (airfare, hotel, and registration fees) for attendance at both the workshop and the POPL conference. Students attending this year will get one year free student membership of SIGPLAN, unless they prefer to opt out during their application. The workshop registration is open to all. Students with alternative sources of funding are welcome as well.

  Are you interested in studying or teaching abroad after graduating? Planning on graduate study in the U.S.? Not sure what your options are? Attend an information session to learn more! 

  Going abroad….The British scholarships, Fulbright Fellowships and other post graduate opportunities can offer you the chance to realize your dreams abroad! If you are interested in going abroad in fall 2016, start asking questions and exploring your options now. 

  The British scholarships include the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge and Mitchell. These awards give you the opportunity to study at a British university for 1-4 years. Strong candidates typically have a 3.7 GPA or higher, a record of service and leadership, and strong academic qualifications for what they are proposing to study in the UK. The British scholarships have a campus deadline of April 30. 

  Post-graduate opportunities…Fulbright offers the opportunity to teach or do research/study abroad. There is no GPA cutoff. Other opportunities such as the NSF Graduate Fellowship, JET program for teaching English in Japan or Illinois Legislative Internship provide myriad opportunities for post-baccalaureate education and growth. Join us at one of the following sessions to learn more about these opportunities.

  The Horizons Fellowship The Horizons Fellowship supports 10 outstanding university students in their pursuit to become leaders in technology. The program provides immersive software engineering and web/mobile development courses geared towards high-achieving college students. Students need not have a computer science background!   The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, is now accepting applications for two education programs for college students and recent graduates: the 2016 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program and the 2016-17 Yiddish Book Center Fellowship Program. 

  The Steiner Summer Yiddish Program is an intensive seven-week course in Yiddish language and culture for college students. The program offers a beginner track for students with no previous Yiddish experience and an intermediate track for those who have completed one year of Yiddish. In addition to their classes, students take part in cultural and social activities, including film screenings, concerts, workshops, and a trip to New York City. Beginner students take a course in Central and Eastern European Yiddish history, literature, and culture, while intermediate students work as interns on the Center’s major projects, including translation and oral history.

  All Steiner students receive full-tuition scholarships. Intermediate students also receive free housing and a $1,000 internship stipend. All participants are eligible to receive college credits through the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

  The 2016 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program will run from June 5 to July 22. Applications are due by February 8, 2016. For more information, visit yiddishbookcenter.org/steiner-summer-yiddish-program.

  The Yiddish Book Center Fellowship Program offers recent college graduates with intermediate or advanced Yiddish skills an opportunity to develop professional experience while working as full-time members of the Center's staff. 

  Fellows serve as teaching assistants for college-level Yiddish classes, conduct interviews for the Center’s Wexler Oral History Project, develop educational and exhibit materials, assist with translation or online accessibility initiatives, and do bibliographic work with the Center’s collection of books. With the support of mentors, Fellows also apply their ingenuity and personal expertise to the creation of new projects.

  Fellows receive a $30,000 stipend and health insurance. The next Fellowship Program runs from September 2016 to August 2017. Applications are due by January 4. For more information, visit yiddishbookcenter.org/fellowship-program.

  The Office of External Fellowships at Illinois is pleased to announce the launch of our new Fellowship Finder database.   Replacing our older Fellowship Opportunities database, Fellowship Finder features over 1,100 curated listings of grants and fellowships for graduate students.  It also offers new features that allow for faster and more targeted searches as well as sharing through social media.  We explain these features in our blog post,  Grad School 101: How to Find Fellowships That Are Right for You.
