Dear Flames,
“What resources does UIC have to help students with unmet basic needs or mental health challenges?”
This is a common and important question asked by UIC students, staff, and faculty. Knowing the answer can save a life, get a student housed, or help them stay on their academic journey. Finding these answers starts with the NEW UIC resource flyer, “You Can Help a Student,” see attached, which provides information on meeting basic needs and helping a student or friend during an emotional or physical challenge.
How to Use:
988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline:
The 988 Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones. This line supports the individual in crisis as well as the friend, family member, staff or faculty who is trying to help.

This flyer has a front and a back each attending to different student needs. The front is “UIC Supportive Resources” which focuses on unmet basic needs and the back is “Supportive Crisis Response” to help students during a time of an active mental health problem or crisis. Use the left side to identify student needs and the right side to identify which UIC or community resources meet those needs. This flyer also includes two important new resources. See below.
