  The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program is now accepting applications for the 2016 Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship at www.rangelprogram.org

  The Rangel Program is pleased to announce the opening of the application period for its 2016 graduate fellowship.   The Fellowship welcomes applications from individuals who want to make a difference in the world through careers as Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State.  The Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program provides benefits of up to $95,000 over two years toward a two-year master's degree, arranges internships on Capitol Hill and at U.S. embassies, and provides mentorship and professional development support. Fellows can use the fellowship to attend two-year master's programs in U.S. institutions to study an area of relevance to the Foreign Service, including international relations, public policy, public administration, economics, or business administration. Upon successful completion of the two-year fellowship and Foreign Service entry requirements, Fellows join the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State, embarking on a uniquely rewarding career of international service.

  Applicants must be college seniors or graduates planning to start two-year graduate programs in fall 2016, must have GPAs of at least 3.2, and must be U.S. citizens. The program welcomes any undergraduate major and encourages applications from members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need.

  Programming Languages Mentoring Workshop 2016What is PLMW

  The Programming Languages Mentoring Workshop (PLMW) aims to encourage graduate students and senior undergraduate students to pursue careers in programming language research. The workshop brings together world leaders in programming languages research and teaching from academia and industry to provide (a) technical sessions on cutting­ edge PL research and (b) mentoring sessions on how to prepare for a research career. The workshop aims to engage students in a process of imagining how they might contribute to our research community. We especially encourage women and under-represented minority students to attend PLMW.

  After the resounding success of the first four Programming Languages Mentoring Workshops at POPL 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, we announce the 5th SIGPLAN Programming Languages Mentoring Workshop, co­-located with POPL 2016. POPL is the ACM’s flagship conference for foundational aspects of programming languages, and its 43rd edition will take place in Florida, USA next year. PLMW will be held immediately before POPL 2016, on Tuesday, January 19. We hope that participants will stay through the entire conference.

  Scholarship applications

  PLMW sponsors have generously donated scholarship funds for qualified students to attend PLMW. These scholarships should cover reasonable expenses (airfare, hotel, and registration fees) for attendance at both the workshop and the POPL conference. Students attending this year will get one year free student membership of SIGPLAN, unless they prefer to opt out during their application. The workshop registration is open to all. Students with alternative sources of funding are welcome as well.

• Opportunities at the Yiddish Book Center, Due Jan. 4

  The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, is now accepting applications for two education programs for college students and recent graduates: the 2016 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program and the 2016-17 Yiddish Book Center Fellowship Program. 

  The Steiner Summer Yiddish Program is an intensive seven-week course in Yiddish language and culture for college students. The program offers a beginner track for students with no previous Yiddish experience and an intermediate track for those who have completed one year of Yiddish. In addition to their classes, students take part in cultural and social activities, including film screenings, concerts, workshops, and a trip to New York City. Beginner students take a course in Central and Eastern European Yiddish history, literature, and culture, while intermediate students work as interns on the Center’s major projects, including translation and oral history.

  All Steiner students receive full-tuition scholarships. Intermediate students also receive free housing and a $1,000 internship stipend. All participants are eligible to receive college credits through the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

  The Yiddish Book Center Fellowship Program offers recent college graduates with intermediate or advanced Yiddish skills an opportunity to develop professional experience while working as full-time members of the Center's staff. 

  Fellows serve as teaching assistants for college-level Yiddish classes, conduct interviews for the Center’s Wexler Oral History Project, develop educational and exhibit materials, assist with translation or online accessibility initiatives, and do bibliographic work with the Center’s collection of books. With the support of mentors, Fellows also apply their ingenuity and personal expertise to the creation of new projects.

  The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer program designed to provide undergraduate students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers. The Program usually selects 15-20 participants (known as “Rangel Scholars”) each year from universities throughout the United States. Students live at Howard University, attend classes, and participate in a variety of programs with foreign affairs professionals at Howard and at diverse locations around Washington, DC.

  The Program has two major components. First, in order to enhance participants' academic preparation to work in international affairs, the Program provides two courses and a seminar that focus on enhancing knowledge and skills related to U.S. foreign policy, economics and writing. In addition, in order to provide greater insight into the foreign policy-making process and international affairs careers, the Rangel Program introduces the participants to a wide range of government and non-government professionals who work on global issues and also arranges visits to various institutions involved in international affairs. The Program also helps students explore graduate school, scholarship, fellowship, internship, and professional options in international affairs.

  The Program covers the costs for tuition, travel, housing, and two meals per day. It also provides a stipend of $3,200.

  American Bullion believes in the value of education and encourages students to improve their knowledge of tangible assets. In early 2014, American Bullion launched its first annual Scholarship Program to help students achieve their educational goals.   The Science Ambassador Scholarship is a full tuition scholarship for a woman seeking an undergraduate degree in science, engineering, or math, funded by Cards Against Humanity.
