Have you ever experienced a lack of motivation or inconsistencies with schoolwork? Have you ever felt like things are weighing heavy on your ability to pull through and stay true to the academic commitments that you made to yourself? It’s natural to feel tired and overwhelmed at times. It is human to need a break. The demands of school, work, and family could be taxing, and it is realistic to acknowledge those things. Here are a few tips that could help realign yourself when it is apparent that you have lost touch with your goals and passions.
1. Breathe
It may sound too simple of a tactic to help realign yourself. However, breathwork is a method that has been utilized over centuries to aid people in grounding themselves. It is a technique with ancient eastern origins and is used to achieve mindfulness. Breathwork is a therapeutic tool to relieve mental, physical, and emotional stress (The Editors at Chopra.com, 2021). Breathwork allows you to slow down, relax, and take in the moment.
2. Pause
Moving too fast lately, but no time to address your personal needs? Doing so may indicate a need to pause, rewind, and relax. Pausing will allow you time to take a break to recover.
3. Enjoy intentional personal time
Whether it is spent alone or with loved ones, we all should have the opportunity to do what makes us happy. Use this time to indulge in favorite pastimes or use it to disassociate and release stressors. Allowing yourself to enjoy and care for yourself is detrimental to your ability to care for others.
4. Journaling
Journaling may sound very high school but, it is an effective tool to release, establish goals, and hold yourself accountable for what you set out to accomplish. Journaling helps you reflect on and review your responses to situations and evaluate your character development progress.
5. Plan for a better week!
After engaging in a few different self-care and awareness activities, return to your syllabi and course schedules to devise a plan to improve academically. Take notes on what needs to be changed and create a practical plan to help you achieve your goals.
