Position Summary The Administrative Nurse III (Nurse Manager) is accountable and responsible for providing oversight of the department day to day operations. The Nurse Manager participates in evaluative research, teaching, prioritizing patient needs, and providing leadership with resource utilization. The Nurse Manager serves as a resource for physicians, nursing and support services. The Nurse Manager identifies strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions, process improvement and quality initiatives in the department. The Nurse Manager relates effectively with department team members for high quality delivery of services and maintains high quality relations with other departments and nursing units. The Nurse Manager participates in all mandatory education requirements, maintenance of records and updating of policies, procedures and skills of personnel in the department. Duties & Responsibilities • 1. Organization • a. Facilities the adoption of values and behaviors that ensure UIH Medical Center the best place to be a patient and the best place to work. • 2. Nursing Operations • a. Builds, develops, and strategically retains NRO Supplemental Staffing Teams through human resource management to ensure a competent, technology-enabled workforce. • b. Develop and Implement staff recruitment and retention strategies and programs • c. Actively involved in position control to promote efficiency in department operations. • d. Supports nursing leadership to implement policies and procedures for optimal outcomes. • e. Supports nursing education activities in collaboration with the Director and Clinical Practice leadership. • f. Reviews and follows up on nursing occurrence reports to include follow up with Risk Management, staff mentoring and educational plan related to occurrences. • g. Collaboratively engages in resolving the reported clinical practice discrepancies involving agency staff. • h. Leads/manages staffing office operations and process improvement initiatives. • 3. Leadership • a. Develops and monitors clinical practice standards for services to all patient populations. • b. Entails a working knowledge of the overall operations of the hospital, conflict resolution and excellent interpersonal communication skills. • c. Acts as a change agent working with nursing and clinical leadership teams in the identification, development, planning, implementation and measurement of overall clinical practice strategies to support quality patient care and professional practice. • d. Develops and maintains a healthy, supportive work environment, demonstrating behaviors consistent with service excellence. • e. Assists and participates in Departmental meetings, Quality Assurance meetings and task forces as assigned. • f. Assists in creating, reviewing, revising departmental Policies and Procedures. • g. Provides specialized clinical consulting and administrative support across all departments for the hospitals. • h. Collects data to identify issues related to health care delivery within the models for hospital-wide or unit level problem solving. • i. Cross train as supplemental HOA coverage within one year of hire. • 4. Quality Patient Care • a. Participates in developing and implementing enterprise-wide nursing quality indicators that include developing appropriate benchmarks and investigating best practices. • b. Establishes quality indicators based on clinical practice standards for major patient populations. • c. Assesses the quality indicators continuously and implements corrective action, when necessary, to maintain or improve quality care.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the state of Illinois
- Master’s Degree preferred in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Public Health, or Business. Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of five years clinical experience, preferably in an academic health care setting.
- Minimum of three year’s experience in nursing leadership/management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead and manage change.
