Position Summary
Community Outreach Intervention Projects in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a Graduate hourly employee to assist the investigator of an CDPH-funded program which aims to implement the annual National HIV Behavioral Surveillance program funded by the CDC and the Chicago Dept of Public Health in the Chicago metro area.
The NHBS is national HIV survey in the Chicago metropolitan area that focuses on populations at risk for HIV infection, including persons who inject drugs, men who have sex with men, and heterosexual persons who live in community areas disproportionately impacted by HIV. COIP assist the CDPH annually to implement this survey and HIV testing in Chicago communities by conducting formative research to help plan for surveillance activities (Mar. - May), then administering the survey and HIV testing during data collection (June-Nov.). This year's surveillance activities will reach persons who inject drugs Chicago.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct one on one interviews with key informants
Summarize interview notes and assist with primary data report to CDC
Prepare tablets and related interview materials for survey data collection
Assist Outreach Coordinator with training of survey interviewers
Collating community resources for interviewers/HIV counselors
Outreach and ongoing communication with community partners
Conduct survey interviews with community members during Summer/Fall
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled as a degree-seeking student in at UIC
Prior experience or interest in working with underserved communities and cultural minorities
Prior research experience and familiarity with aging and caregiving a plus
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in one or more languages spoken by Asian Americans in the Chicago area (e.g. Cantonese/Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Hindi, Urdu etc.) a plus
