Description:
The Center for Pediatrics Translational Research and Education in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a Research Specialist (Technician) to join our team. Our project focuses on exploring the interaction between metabolites and immune signaling to regulate macrophage responses in the context of inflammatory diseases. In this capacity, the role will assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research in the field of Gastroenterology, specifically emphasizing mucosal immunology. The research primarily relies on the application of molecular biology techniques and genetic models.
- Maintain mouse colonies, including setting up and maintaining breeder cages, caring for non-breeding cages, performing animal handling tasks such as weaning, ear notching, tail snips, dosing, and maintaining colony records.
- Perform basic molecular biology experiments, including but not limited to genotyping, western blot analysis, qRT-PCR assays, and cell culture.
- General laboratory management duties: Track and summarize lab supplies, verify the accuracy of invoices, and maintain inventory of reagents, mice, and/or lab supplies.
- Following protocols, design and set up, and conduct basic experiments.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Master’s degree in science preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
- Proficient in specific lab research techniques.
