Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Certified Nursing Assistant. This position will serve under the general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, this position will perform nursing assistance and personal care services for individuals with physical and/or mental impairments who reside in homes operated by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to meet regulatory guidelines for DVA and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH); assistance typically includes physical care, activities of daily living, patient feeding, bathing, personal hygiene care, ambulation, transfer of residents, dressing needs; takes and records vital signs; prepares and maintains records and reports. Essential Functions
- 25% Performs nursing assistance and personal care for residents with physical and/or mental impairments adhering to State and Federal regulatory guidelines.
- 25% Performs the following treatment measures as directed by clinical staff.
- 20% Continually inspects and checks residents in the assigned areas to ensure comfort and safety.
- 15% Performs routine straightening and organizing of the residents’ units.
- 10% Performs effective infection control practices utilizing universal precautions in resident care.
- 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires successful completion of an Illinois approved Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program consisting of a minimum of 120 hours of instruction which shall include at least 80 hours of theoretical instruction and 40 hours of clinical practice.
- In compliance with Section 340.1376, of the Illinois Administrative Code, requires inclusion on the Illinois Department of Public Health Nurse Aide Registry within 60 days of hire.
- Requires a health inventory and physical examination no more than 30 days prior to and no more than 30 days after the initial employment in the facility. Includes a required tuberculin test.
This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass a background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
