Position Overview
Veterans’ Nursing Assistant-Certified (VNAC) are responsible for caring for the veterans that so bravely served our country. They assist with physical care of residents, activities of daily living, feeding, bathing, personal hygiene care, ambulation, transfer and repositioning, dressing, toileting, take and record vital signs, and document care records. The ideal candidate will be a caring and compassionate individual who will engage in the residents’ time served in the military and learning from their experiences. In addition, the VNACs will play a vital role in the mission of creating and maintaining a unique atmosphere of the highest levels of resident well-being and a harmonious work environment for staff. Essential Function
- Performs nursing assistance and personal care for residents with physical and/or mental impairments adhering to State and Federal regulatory guidelines.
- Performs the following treatment measures as directed by clinical staff: Takes and records weight and vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration), shampoos, and application of lotions and creams. Performs for or assists residents with range of motion exercise. Reports compliance with treatments to the nurse, such as: orthotic splints, wound dressings, skin wraps, oxygen therapy, and other related treatments.
- Performs routine straightening and organizing of the residents’ units.
- Performs effective infection control practices utilizing universal precautions in resident care.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires successful completion of an Illinois approved Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program consisting of a minimum of 120 hours of instruction which shall include at least 80 hours of theoretical instruction and 40 hours of clinical practice.
- In compliance with Section 340.1376, of the Illinois Administrative Code, requires inclusion on the Illinois Department of Public Health Nurse Aide Registry within 60 days of hire.
- Requires a health inventory and physical examination no more than 30 days prior to and no more than 30 days after the initial employment in the facility. Includes a required tuberculin test.

- Requires ability to pass a background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Hours: 6:45 p.m. - 7:15 a.m.: 3 days a week including Every Other Weekend
