Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Restorative Director for the Chicago Veterans’ Home. This position serves under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in conformance with established standards, procedures and policies, utilizes professional training and expertise in the field of restorative nursing; serves as a member of the interdisciplinary care plan team; serves as a working supervisor of the restorative department staff; monitors and reviews resident records to ensure required documentation is present and appropriate care is being administered according to resident care plan and restorative plan. Essential Functions
- 30% Serves as restorative unit director; establishes policies and procedures as needed; maintains the following restorative programs according to Illinois Department of Public Health(IDPH) guidelines
- 25% Completes professional nursing assessments to gather resident medical information, including information for restorative programs and the Minimum Data Set (MDS).
- 20% Provides nursing care, treatments, and medication administration
- 10% Serves as a working supervisor
- 5% Serves a member of the interdisciplinary care plan team
- 5% Participates in Quality Assurance Committee by monitoring various aspects of there habilitation program, including restraint use
- 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are within the scope of the duties and responsibilities enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in nursing.
- Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization
- Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
Four (4) years of experience exercising judgement and discretion in developing, implementing, and interpreting departmental policies and procedures.
Four (4) years of experience recording appropriate information, written and verbal communication skills, ability to speak before a group and comprehensive ability to fully evaluate staff performance and resident care and to ensure appropriate written documentation.
Four (4) years of experience implementing and supporting the philosophy, goals and objectives, policies and standards of Nursing Service and the facility.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in nursing
Extensive knowledge of current Illinois Department of Public Health regulations
Extensive knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice and recent developments in the field of nursing, preferably geriatric nursing.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires successful completion of courses or training program which includes at least 60 hours of classroom/lab training in restorative/rehabilitative nursing as evidenced by a transcript, certificate, diploma, or other written documentation from an accredited school or recognized accrediting agency such as a state or national organization of nurses or a state licensing authority.
- Requires a valid nursing license in the State of Illinois
- Requires ability to pass a background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
