The Medical Scholars Program in the College of Medicine is seeking a Graduate Hourly Assistant to support the ongoing developmental needs and growing interest of the Medical Scholars Program.
The mission of the GPPA Medical Scholars BA-MD Program is to facilitate an excellent undergraduate education in liberal arts and sciences with specific attention to the scope of medicine, social justice, and the evolution of the social contract for a group of talented students who have demonstrated potential and interest in a life in medicine. The program, which grants acceptance into the University of Illinois College of Medicine, is the largest GPPA (Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions) program offered, attracting close to 500 applicants a year from across the state of Illinois. We have about 120 students enrolled in the program annually.
Duties & Responsibilities
New Student Parent Welcome – End of August/early September
Student Town Halls
Special Seminars – Fall and Spring
Senior Thesis Forum – April 2024
The Admissions “season” begins in December and goes through March. We receive about 500 applications and interview anywhere from 90-120 students. This is a very fast paced and busy time of year.
Medical Scholars students take 5 discussion courses with us in the College of Medicine. Each course has its own blackboard site. We will have two to three courses/sites a semester.
Send student announcements via email
Answer student inquiries, liaise between students and directors or course instructors, etc.
Program Communications
Assist with program publications (newsletter, new student program, etc.)
Send program communications and announcements to the community
Other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- MPH candidate/student with a college degree
- Research experience
- Organizational skills
- Highly motivated
- Project management
