OB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides a high level of customer service and support to Carle patients by providing bedside safety guidance. Additionally, the PCA can be guided to perform limited duties regarding the individual patient's personal care and hygiene needs.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Customer Service experience and professionalism - Effective oral and written communication skills - Ability to focus on an individual's care needs for up to 12 hours a shift. - Ability to assist with lifting patients - Ability to ambulate patients with the use of a gait belt (training provided) - Ability to work on a team supporting patient care needs - Experience with computers ' data entry
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists patients with the activities of daily living
- Safely assist the patient from bed to chair, bathroom (or commode), or wheel chair
- Provide safe transport in the form of walking patient within room or on unit (not off the unit); proper use of gait belt
- Recognizes that getting report from patient's nurse is required at start of CPCA's shift. If report is not received, CPCA contacts House Officer or Staffing Office
- Informs Nurse, HCT, or next available medical personnel for any emergent event the patient starts to experience
- Informs Nurse or HCT if patient experiences any change in behavior
- Completes assignments as instructed and directed by RN and ensures accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
- Constantly monitor patient visually to ensure patient does not fall or pull lines/tubes
- Assists patients with the activities of daily living under the direction of RN or HCT; including personal hygiene and eating
- Safely assist the patient from bed to chair, bathroom (or commode), or wheel chair.
- Provide safe transport in the form of walking patient within room or on unit (not off the unit); proper use of gait belt
- Hourly documentation in EPIC of patient's disposition
- Patient Sitter serves the following patient populations: Inpatient Med/Surg; ICU, CVICU, Neuro, Pediatrics, Oncology, Observation, and Inpatient Rehabilitation
