Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a Licensed Health Care Professional in nursing care. The selected candidate will be implementing policy and procedures of medical care, safety and security in relation to taking care of individuals in custody. The selected candidate will be attending individuals in custody when they are taken off grounds to medical appointments, court dates, or other instances when traveling outside the facility. Job Responsibilities
Serves as an Individual Care Nurse.
- Accompanies individuals in custody for off-campus needs including but not limited to medical visits and court writs.
- Maintaining individual in custody hygiene and cleanliness to ensure a professional and presentable environment in settings such as courts, hospitals and other public spaces.
- Provide personalized care to individuals in custody with varying levels of mobility and medical conditions, ensuring their comfort and dignity are maintained.
- Assisting in the preparation and presentation of individuals in custody for court appearances, medical evaluations and other public engagements, ensuring they are well-groomed and presentable.
- Educate individuals in custody on proper hygiene practices and support them in attaining their personal cleanliness during hospital stays.
- Enforces safety, security, sanitary and custodial measures.
- Prepares and administers medication within the limits of authority.
- Reviews physician orders.
- Maintains charts and reports, documenting patient interactions, care provided, and any observed changes in hygiene status accurately in the medical records.
- Prepares and applies special dressings.
- Maintain a well-organized and clean patient care environment by sanitizing equipment, surfaces and common areas.
- Prepares injury reports on all individual in custody and employee accidents.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
2. Requires at least one (1) year of professional practice as a Registered Nurse.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Knowledge of infection control procedures and practices to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
2. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals in custody and multi-disciplinary healthcare staff or court officials.
3. Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, maintain patient comfort and dignity at all times.
4. Strong attention to detail and ability to perform tasks with meticulousness and efficiency.
5. Ability to adapt to fast-paced and dynamic healthcare settings while upholding high standards of professionalism and appearance.
6. Prefers experience in a correctional setting (county, state, federal).
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to travel.
2. Required to maintain a valid, current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois while in this position.
3. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
