Description:
The Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a high motivated Research Specialist to participate in research projects under the direction of PI, Dr. Donald Vander Griend.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop objectives and design of research and data collection procedures. Initiate and execute research goals for project. Project will focus on the role of the stem cell genes SOX2 and MEIS1 and MEIS2 in prostate disease.
Managing transgenic mouse colonies. Includes genotyping, breeding, imaging, conducting minor surgical procedures, and maintaining compliance with animal protocols.
Conduct and coordinate research experiments. This includes CRISPR-Cas9 gene targeting, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, western blotting, imaging, and cell culture. Analyze, critically evaluate, interpret, and present data and results and refine experimental design
Replicate, refine and add/develop new research approaches based on project needs and the direction of the PI.
Perform general lab operating administrative duties, including ordering supplies, maintaining safety compliance, negotiating with potential vendors, and lab organization
Communications:
Monitor project developments on an ongoing basis and implement changes as needed. Present and participate_x000d_ in lab meetings.
Prepare, organize and communicate research results. Assist in writing papers, grants, and other documents for_x000d_ publication based on research findings.
Author and co-author articles for publication and present at scientic sym posia and conferences.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Master’s degree in science preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
- Proficient in specific lab research techniques.
