Description:
The Visiting Research Specialist will focus on synthetic biology and natural product discovery for a collaborative, NIH-Funded project. The major goal of this project is to develop and apply a novel bacterial host for natural product discovery.
Duties & Responsibilities
Laboratory operational activities such as evaluating supply needs and laboratory management/organization.
Work with other team members.
Design and conduct research. Research activities may include bacterial cultivation, molecular cloning, gene expression in bacterial hosts, and gene deletion.
Analyze results and plan follow-up experiments.
Keep accurate records of the experiments suitable for writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
Participate in weekly lab meetings.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biological engineering or related field required. Master’s degree in science preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
- Proficient in specific lab research techniques such as molecular cloning and bacterial cultivation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research lab experience outside of coursework.
- Prior experience with laboratory operational activities.
- Strong organizational skills.
