  • Soros Fellowship for "New Americans," Apply by 11/1

    Soros Foundation Scholarship: http://www.pdsoros.org/  

    According to the foundation website, the Paul and Daisy Soros Scholarship for New Americans “provide[s] opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields and to partake of the American dream. The program was established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States afforded the founders of the Fellowship, Paul & Daisy Soros.”

    Some additional information:
    *Applicants are considered “New Americans” if they are naturalized American citizens (or permanent residents) or if both of their parents are naturalized citizens.
    *At the time of their selection, Fellows must be college seniors or early in the graduate programs for which they request support.
    *Each Fellow receives tuition and living expenses that can total as much as $90,000 over two academic years. This money is used for graduate or professional school, including medical school.
    *Fellows are selected on the basis of merit (not financial need). The specific criteria emphasize creativity, originality, initiative and sustained accomplishment.
    *Each Fellows attends two weekend conferences. The great majority continue to be involved with the program through regional dinners, service in the selection process for later classes, etc. Information found at: http://pdsoros-prod.punkave.net/fellowship

  • Garden Club of America’s Urban Forestry Fellowship, Apply by Fri. 1/31

    The Garden Club of America (GCA) with the support of Casey Trees in Washington, DC, is soliciting applications for its national urban forestry fellowship. GCA has a history of interest in the health of the urban forest and would like to support young scientists in their undergraduate and graduate studies in this field.  The study areas of interest are far reaching, including urban forest management and planning as well as topics in biology, ecology, or human health that will specifically move urban forest science forward. The fellowship is open to both graduate students and advanced undergraduates pursuing degrees in urban forestry, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies or a closely related field at any 4-year college or university degree program in the United States.  Click on the post to view more.

  • College of Business Scholarships, Info Sessions 2/3 and 2/5, Deadline 2/19

    This year, the College of Business scholarship applications will be available on the UIC SnAP, the university’s centralized scholarship list and application system. UIC SnAP contains scholarships for continuing UIC students in all colleges and at all levels. Start by logging in with your netid in the upper right hand corner. Next, complete the General Application which will match you with scholarships for which you qualify and no further action is needed. You may also be recommended for scholarships that require additional essays or uploads. External scholarships are also listed in the system and directions to other websites may be provided.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    To apply, you must be a current undergraduate student in the UIC College of Business with a graduation date of Spring 2017 or later.Scholarship Funds are received in the Fall Semester 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters.Eligible students must have UIC GPA (Spring 2016 Transfer Students are not eligible to apply).Students must be in good academic standing, and registered as a full-time student during the entire 2016-2017 academic year.Incomplete or inaccurate information will result in a disqualified scholarship application.

    Applicants may receive scholarships more than once and are encouraged to apply again in subsequent semesters if they are eligible.

  • Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship, Due 2/28

    The new component of the Fulbright Program will offer up to five awards to U.S. citizens for nine months of overseas travel and multi-media storytelling on globally significant social or environmental topics. Fellows will focus their digital stories on one of the program’s eight themes: biodiversity, cities, cultures, disasters, energy, food, oceans, and water. The Fulbright-National Geographic Fellowship will provide a unique platform for U.S. Fulbrighters to undertake an in-depth exploration of a globally relevant issue, comparing and contrasting how that issue is experienced across borders. Utilizing a variety of digital storytelling tools and media, including blogs, photography, video, and social media, Fellows will share their stories by providing content to a National Geographic blog and other platforms with the support of National Geographic’s editorial team.

    British Scholarships: The Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Gates Cambridge Scholarships offer students the opportunity to study in the UK for 1-2 years. These highly competitive awards seek students with a 3.7 gpa or higher with a record of research, service and leadership. UIC selects candidates in the spring to help prepare them for fall deadlines.   • DAAD German Studies Research Grant, Applications on a Rolling Basis

    This specialized DAAD program once again offers German Studies Research Grants to highly-qualified undergraduate, graduate and PhD students at American and Canadian universities who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (i.e., 1-2 months) in Germany.

    The program is designed to encourage research and promote the study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary German affairs from an interdisciplinary perspective.

    Additional grants will be made available for research projects in Germany on the social, communal, and intellectual history of German-speaking Jewry and stipends awarded in conjunction with the Leo Baeck Institute in New York.

The goals of Shout Out for the Humanities contests are twofold: to make members of our community aware of the professional, cognitive, and interpersonal benefits of studying the humanities in higher education; and to increase awareness about how humanities scholarship benefits the public and enriches our personal lives.

  • The Kevin Spacey Foundation Grant for Artists, due May 29

    The KSF grants support emerging artists and companies, recognising them as KSF Artists of Choice.

    Do you have a great idea for a new project but need help to get it off the ground? A KSF Grant gives you a financial boost of up to £10,000 / $10,000, mentoring opportunities with respected industry professionals and advice on how to promote yourself / your company and your project.

    Each year KSF selects ten KSF Artists of Choice, five UK based applicants and five US based applicants.

    They want to hear from artists / companies who are looking to develop:

    A Play

    A Musical

    A Dance Piece

    A Choir / Band

    A Short Film

    The successful artists / companies will be recognised as the annual KSF Artists of Choice, supported through mentoring and professional guidance as well as a grant of up to £10,000 / $10,000.

    KSF Artists of Choice are supported in part by Amy Ballard and friends of Irene Worth and Mitchell Erickson in their honor.

  • DAAD Information Session, Tues. 9/13

    For anyone interested in studying or conducting research in Germany, funding is available through DAAD, the German Exchange Service (https://www.daad.org/). UIC has an arrangement with DAAD, allowing our students to be evaluated by a campus committee, who provides an endorsement and ranking, which historically has secured funding for at least one UIC student. The campus deadline is October 19th for this opportunity.

    DAAD has dozens of different funding opportunities with various deadlines. Viable student applicants come from all disciplines, from Art History and Germanic Studies to Mechanical Engineering and Public Health. Marie Khan will be holding an information session on  Tuesday, September 13th in UH 650 at noon. Refreshments will be provided.

    At this workshop, Marie Khan will go over the following three particular options DAAD funds, and the award process:

    -          Study Scholarship for Architecture: Deadline is September 30th, 2016 (https://www.daad.org/?p=gradstudy); there is no campus committee evaluation for these applications and they are mailed overseas to Bonn, Germany

    -          Study Scholarship for Fine Art, Design, Film, Music, and Performing Arts: Deadline is October 31st, 2016 (https://www.daad.org/?p=gradstudy); there is no campus committee evaluation for these applications and they are mailed overseas to Bonn, Germany

    Some eligibility points to consider:

    -applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents

    -applicants do not necessarily need to be fluent in German

    -for arts applicants, unfortunately, they are not able to be evaluated by our preliminary UIC committee. Anyone interested in this route however Marie Khan would be happy to meet with regardless

    Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarship

    Apply now for the 2017-19 Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarships – Full 2 year scholarship

    Every year, the Pershing Square Foundation awards up to five full scholarships to support outstanding students on the 1+1 MBA, covering both the Master's degree and the MBA year. Pershing Square Scholars are exceptional individuals who can demonstrate the potential and commitment to finding scalable and sustainable solutions to world-scale social challenges. The scholarship is if you would like to pursue any of the partnering Master’s degrees and combine it with our MBA. It is also available if you are currently studying one of the Master's partnering programmes and wish to apply to the MBA programme. 

    Established in 2014, the Oxford Pershing Square Scholarship provides funding for tuition, college fees and a contribution towards living expenses for both years of studies. You would also benefit from opportunities for mentorship and networking with inspirational individuals and organisations that are part of the Pershing Square Foundation’s community. You become integrated into Saïd Business School’s community as soon as you begin your Master’s degree by attending receptions and meetings with our Dean, faculty and other MBA scholars. You can access and utilise both your department and Oxford Saïd’s resources and networks throughout both years. You will also be invited to a spring ‘trek’ to New York City hosted by the Pershing Square Foundation, where you can participate in meetings and workshops with leading innovators and change makers.

    How to apply

    To be considered for the scholarship you must apply to the 1+1 MBA by 17 March 2017. Please note that some partnering Masters close their applications in January 2017 and others in March 2017. 

    In addition to the Master and MBA applications, you must submit an essay of no more than 500 words addressing this question 'How do you intend to change the world? What does this tell us about you as a person?’

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with the selection panel.

    Scholarship season is here, and Educators for Fair Consideration are excited to bring you our 2016-2017 Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship Materials.

    Now, more than ever, it is important for immigrant students to know that—regardless of their immigration status—they are eligible for many scholarships!

    This year, we have added 90 new scholarships to our undergraduate and graduate scholarship databases.  Over 80% of these scholarships are open to students regardless of immigration status. They do not require applicants to disclose their immigration status

  • ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund 2014, Due 3/3

    The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund for the 2014-2015 academic year is now available.  The Scholarship Fund is intended to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to these students.

    The Scholarship Fund will award $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewable for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. Completed scholarship applications must be received via email: legalosf@americanbar.org  no later than March 3, 2014.

    Recipients will be selected based on their qualifications for the scholarship and not on the law school they plan to attend.   • Fulbright Fellowship for Teaching English or Research Abroad, Due Fri. 9/12

    Immediately after World War II in 1946, Congress created the Fulbright Program, to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange. Students participate in English teaching or a self-designed program of study that can include research, university coursework, art projects, language study and more. The grants are available to over 150 countries, and generally provide round-trip transportation, language or orientation courses, maintenance for the academic year, and supplemental health and accident insurance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who hold a BA or BS by the beginning of the grant period.

  • NSEP Boren Study Abroad Scholarships, Info Session Fri. 10/23

    Each year the National Security Education Program awards David L. Boren Scholarships to outstanding U.S. undergraduates through a competitive national merit-based process. Since 1994, NSEP has awarded approximately 2,828 Boren Scholarships. Each Boren Scholar goes abroad to a critical country to study its language and culture. Awards are for up to one academic year. Boren Scholars demonstrate their merit for an award of up to $20,000 in part by committing to work for the U.S. Government for at least one year.

    How can I get more information? Attend an information session with Alison Mary Patz, Program Analyst, Defense Language and National Security Education Office at 1pm on Friday, October 23 in UH 850. Ms. Patz will speak about the undergraduate scholarship and the graduate fellowship both of which enable students to study abroad in non-English speaking countries outside of Western Europe.

    Boren Scholarship Basics:

    Award Amounts Maximum scholarship awards are:

    $8,000 for a summer program (special initiative for STEM students only; 8 weeks minimum) $10,000 for a semester $20,000 for a full academic year 

    Length of Study Boren Scholarships promote long term linguistic and cultural immersion, and therefore study abroad proposals for two or more semesters are strongly encouraged.

    National Security  The program focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Descriptions can be found on the website: http://borenawards.org/boren_scholarship/basics.html

  • Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Deadline Extended to Wed. 11/26

    The Goldwater Scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding sophomores and juniors interested in pursuing a career in science, math or engineering. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books and room/board up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Sophomores are eligible for up to two years of funding.

    Candidates must be full time sophomores or juniors at the time of application, be interested in a research career in science, math or engineering, be a U.S. citizen, natural or resident alien, and have a GPA of 3.7 or above. Students planning on medical studies alone are not eligible. Students pursuing the MD/PhD can be candidates. Due to the competitive nature of the UIC selection process, strong candidates should have at least 3 months of science/engineering research experience.

    Candidates must be nominated by UIC and may not apply directly. UIC students interested in applying should contact the Office of Special Scholarship Programs (ssp@uic.edu) for more information about the application process.

  • German-American Youth Exchange Info Session, Thurs. 9/25

    German-American Youth Exchange Info Session

    The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a reciprocal exchange program between the United States and Germany, designed to strengthen ties and understanding between the people of both countries. The fellowship is annually awarded to 75 American and 75 German young professionals, and is funded by the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress through the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). CBYX participants act as ambassadors of their home country and culture while immersing themselves in the academic, professional, and everyday life of their host culture.

  • Women’s Leadership and Resource Center Tuition Awards, Due Fri. 10/30

    We are pleased to announce that financial awards towards tuition* are being awarded for undergraduate study at UIC for the Spring 2016 academic semester.  We at the Women’s Leadership and Resource Center want to recognize students that have made significant contributions to the movement against domestic violence and sexual assault throughout the UIC campus and/or Chicago community or who have triumphed over personal experiences within these areas. The goal of this award is to support women in their educational pursuits who have a great deal of financial need that is not being met by financial aid or loans. 

     We invite you to apply and to be considered for this tuition award.  A student must meet the following qualifications:

    - Must be a full time undergraduate degree seeking student who meets the requirements of UIC’s SAP policy. Please visit http://www.uic.edu/depts/financialaid/sap_policy.shtml for the details of this policy.
    - Must not have completed their degree requirements for graduation or already have earned a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants must be continuing UIC undergraduate students who have attended UIC for at least one semester.

    - Must complete the 2015-2016 FAFSA and have financial need as determined by the FAFSA.

    The Truman is a $30,000 award for graduate/professional study for students who want careers in public service at a leadership level.     The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi currently awards fifty-one Fellowships of $5,000 each and six at $15,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study.  Senior members of Phi Kappa Phi planning to begin graduate study next fall who wish to apply for the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship for Graduate Study must complete the application and submit recommendations to Phi Kappa Phi by March 20.     Chicago Consular Corps (CCC) Scholarship

    UIC students are invited to apply for the CCC Scholarship for the academic year 2016-2017. Fifteen successful applicants will each receive $1,000.00. Thirteen scholarships are available to UIC international degree seeking students. Two scholarships are available to full time, degree seeking American students. Eligible are UIC undergraduates and graduate students from all fields. Eligibility for the scholarship is limited to students who have a minimum cumulative UIC GPA of 3.5/4.0

    Only complete applications will be considered. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all parts of the application are received.

    APPLICATION CHECKLIST The following checklist will make it easier for you to complete your application: 1. Academic Reference Form: The form must be completed by a college/university level professor/instructor and submitted through UIC SnAP app.

    Listing of academic awards or honors; clubs, activities and offices held; previous study/travel abroad; internships or volunteer work; and employment. This item can be a formal resume or similar document, which enables you to provide a description of yourself and your achievements in addition to the listing of courses and grades provided by your academic record (your transcript). There is no particular format required. A Statement of Goals (maximum of 500 words) explaining your academic and career goals, including any international aspects of such goals.

    For domestic students: Photocopy of applicant’s US passport page to include name, city of origin, and expiration date or another form of official ID. (uploaded into SnAP!) For foreign students: Photocopy of applicant’s passport page to include name, country and city of origin, & expiration date and copy of applicant’s foreign student visa page. (uploaded into SnAP!)

    You will be notified about the status of your application after 10/01/2016. Awardees are asked to participate of the CCC Award Ceremony to be held on mid-November at UIC.

    The US-UK Fulbright Commission has opened applications for the UK Summer Institute Award Programmes for US Undergraduates.  

    The Fulbright UK Summer Institute Programmes offer students a fantastic opportunity to be immersed in the study of British academics and culture. Students will take part in research, collaboration, presentation, and cultural events at an esteemed British university. They will enhance their leadership skills, develop knowledge and understanding of new subjects, and become ambassadors for the United Kingdom and the United States.   Students from all areas of study are encouraged to apply. Each Summer Institute will cover a different theme such as acting at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the history of the slave trade in England, or the political, social and economic relationships of Northern Ireland. These institutes include:

    To meet the minimum eligibility, applicants must:

    be a US citizen and possess a US passport; be at least 18 years old; have a high level of academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.7 (confirmed by academic marks, awards and references); have at least two years of university study upon their return ( i.e. applicants should currently be a Freshman or Sophomore in college/university) be mature, responsible, independent, and open-minded

    The Awards will cover the majority of all costs incurred, including flights to and from the UK, university fees, and room and board at the host UK University. Please Note: There have been two changes made to this year’s application process.

    Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.7 All references must be submitted online (applicants should direct their references to the webpage of their selected institute where they can the online reference letter form)

    Deadlines for 2016 are:  23 February or 26 February, 2016 – depending on the Institute. Each Programme also varies in duration, from three to six weeks.  Please make sure to check the specific Institute page for the particular deadline.    

    The US-UK Fulbright Commission would greatly appreciate your efforts in circulating information about these programmes amongst your eligible students.   

    Application instructions have also been placed on the UK Summer Institute webpage for student reference. We recommend they read all the information on the website before beginning an application as it may answer many initial questions.

These special opportunities include a total of 4 special initiatives with the addition of the South Asian Flagship Languages Initiative (SAFLI).      · The African Flagship Languages Initiative (AFLI) offers Boren Scholarship and Boren Fellowship applicants the opportunity to study African languages and cultures by participating in domestic and overseas language programs in Akan/Twi, French, Portuguese, Swahili, Wolof, or Zulu.   • Soros Fellowships for New Americans, Apply by 11/1

    The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is a merit-based graduate school fellowship for immigrants and children of immigrants who are 30 or younger as of the application deadline: November 1, 2016. Every year the program selects 30 Fellows, each of whom receives up to $90,000 over one to two years for full-time graduate study in any discipline or profession at a US graduate institution. Fellows also join an extraordinary community of past recipients that includes over 550 New Americans working at the tops of their respective fields. If born abroad, an applicant must be a naturalized citizen, a green card holder, or a DACA recipient. If born in the United States, an applicant’s parents must have been born abroad as non-US citizens. Applicants must be applying to graduate school or in the first two years of their graduate program as of the application deadline.     Established to help aspiring computer scientists excel in technology and become leaders in the field.

    Selected students will receive 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada) for the 2014-2015 school year. Current undergraduate or graduate students will be invited to attend the Google Scholars’ Retreat in the summer of 2014.
