    The Duckworth Lab at the University of Pennsylvania studies two traits that predict achievement: grit and self-control. Grit is the tendency to sustain interest in and effort toward very long-term goals (Duckworth et al., 2007). Self-control is the voluntary regulation of behavioral, emotional, and attentional impulses in the presence of momentarily gratifying temptations or diversions (Duckworth & Seligman,2005; Duckworth & Steinberg, in press).     Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (ARSP) is seeking Americans (ages 18 and above) interested in serving on a voluntary basis for a year in Germany.

    People from diverse backgrounds live, work and learn together for 12 months at Holocaust memorial sites and non-profits promoting understanding and tolerance, remembering the past and taking a stand against anti-semitism, racism and discrimination today. The volunteers come from the United States, Israel, Russia and different European countries, including Germany itself.     Note: This position is part of the AANAPISI Educational Employment Grant program offered by the UIC AANAPISI Initiative, Student Employment, and the Career Services Office. Concurrent to their employment, student employees, along with their supervisors, will engage in a guided career development framework aimed at building lifelong career skills to support lifelong professional success. The UIC AANAPISI Initiative is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education¹s Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Program.

    Eligibility: Due to the federal funding restrictions for the UIC AANAPISI Initiative, student employees must be non-international undergraduate UIC students who are enrolled (part-time or full-time) during the academic year. In the summer, students do not have to be enrolled as long as they were enrolled in spring and will be enrolled in the fall.   • Food Recovery Network: 2014-2015 Fellowship Program, Rolling Until 5/15

    The Food Recovery Network (FRN) is seeking seven fellows to work full-time on the Member Support and Expansion teams in College Park, Maryland. Fellowships start on August 11, 2014 and end May 15, 2015. Fellows receive a monthly $1,500 stipend. Founded in September of 2011, the Food Recovery Network (FRN) is the largest national student-led food recovery movement working to bring food recovery programs to colleges across the country. Made up of dozens of chapters at colleges and universities, FRN has recovered over 300,000 pounds of food and is rapidly expanding.     The Department of Slavic and Baltic Languages & Literatures at UIC seeks a work-study undergraduate student to provide research support for the department. Responsibilities include:

    -       Library research

    -       Scanning, xeroxing, and other office assistance

    -       Maintenance of the web site for Polish Studies. Training on how to post materials will be provided.

    Job Description: Presenter and General Office Aide: Work on campus! Help the UIC Wellness Center educate UIC students about healthier living! If you’re seeking a degree in a healthcare field, education, or psychology this job is a great opportunity to learn how to convey information to an audience. Candidates in this position will present Wellness Center workshops on a variety of health education topics including: safe sex, responsible drinking, nutrition, stress management, women’s health, and men’s health. The duties of this positon also include working in the center itself, doing general office tasks (answering phones, helping students who walk into the center, and assisting with implementing center programs.     The UIC Orientation Program seeks to serve its diverse population of prospective new students while connecting them to their advisors and preparing them for their transition into our university.

    This program strives to aid students in more ways than just one, guiding through the historic campus, connecting with the numerous student resources, programs, and clubs available, and showing what we as a university have to offer.

    Looking to gain professional experience? Is your student looking for a paid position? Would your student like to live on campus for FREE during the summer? Student Orientation Leader (SOL) applications for the summer of 2017 will be available as of Monday, January 16th.

    Student Marketing Assistant

    The Student Marketing Assistant will assist in providing content for the Asian American Resource and Cultural Center blog AARCCorner, editing and designing the Asian American Student Resource Book, and creating publicity for AARCC events including Asian American Awareness Month.

    We are seeking a creative student with graphic design and marketing skills who can work independently.  Experience with Adobe Photoshop and After Effects are a plus.  This position will start August 2015 with summer work possibility.  You will need to be an undergraduate student maintaining at least six credit hours Fall 2015.

    General Duties:

    This position is for the 2015-2016 academic year (August 2015 - May 2016). Student Marketing Assistant

    Under the supervision of the director, the Student Marketing Assistant performs the following: Maintenance of AARCC blog, YouTube channel, Facebook page, and Twitter account.

    Assist in the maintenance of AARCC website content.

    Lead in the design and editing of the Asian American Resource Book.

    Design outreach brochures and marketing materials. Assist with the coordination of special events. Act as photographer and videographer of special events.

    Develop educational and promotional videos. Provide customer service and respond to general inquiries via phone and e-mail. Perform other general office support tasks. 

     

    Desired Qualifications:

    One year of experience in a related marketing position; experience with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects; basic website maintenance skills; some blogging and video creation experience.  Fine Arts major with Moving Images focus preferred. 

    Starting Salary:

    $8.77/hour

    These positions will also assist with general outreach and publicity for AARCC events. We expect these positions to require approximately 10-20 hours per week. These positions start at $8.77/hour (with expected increase this summer) and are open to work-study (preferred – revise your FAFSA or contact Financial Aid to request work-study) and non-work-study students.

    The Institute for Health Research and Policy administered through the School of Public Health is searching for a part-time undergraduate student to support the IT functions in a friendly and energetic office environment.  This position is available immediately.  Duties include assisting with the installation of software on new computers; moving and setup of new and existing computers as staff move to new offices; assist users with software installations and in setting up phones and other electronic devices for university connectivity; provide support with other technology-related questions.  Applicants should have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.  The ability to lift 50 lbs is required.

    The UIC AANAPISI (Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions) Initiative seeks 1 paid *Outreach Intern* *with a special focus on outreach to Pacific Islander Students*. This position begins Spring 2016, with potential for continuation in Summer 2016.

    The AANAPISI program is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education and aims to support recruitment, retention, and graduation of Asian American and Pacific Islander students at UIC. The intern will help to support the grant’s outreach initiatives, which includes: aiding with AANAPISI events; increasing awareness of AANAPISI programs.
