Are you interested in learning how to do research and how to work directly with maps, images, and books from the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries?
In the Newberry Library Undergraduate Seminar, you'll attend seminars with students from DePaul, Loyola, and Roosevelt University and receive guidance on developing, researching, and writing a project using the Newberry Library's extensive sources. The seminar topic for Spring 2024 is Medicines, Poisons, and Landscapes of Care in the Early Americas.
Class meets from 2-5 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Newberry (60 W. Walton); you would enroll for 6 credit hours of LAS 495 (it counts as 2 courses!), some or all of which may be applied to your major or minor. You would also receive a scholarship ($1250) to cover books and transportation.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students interested in the topic and/or thinking about applying to graduate school. A description of the seminar can be found here.
Contact Ellen McClure at ellenmc@uic.edu if you have questions; applications are due to her by October 23.
