The Chicago Help Initiative (CHI) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization that provides a multitude of services to homeless, disadvantaged, and unemployed individuals to improve their well-being, self-esteem, and productivity. We offer guests with food and resources at Catholic Charities (721 N. Lasalle St) every Wednesday evening. While at the meal, guests have access to resource tables run by social workers, partner agencies, and volunteers who can provide them with information and connect them with services they may need – including but not limited to shelter, addiction services, legal aid, medical care, and job opportunities. Students that are passionate about our cause are encouraged to volunteer with us at our resource table!
In preparation for the upcoming winter, we are documenting the amount of encampments around the city of Chicago to advocate for new temporary housing policies. We are building a map to encourage elected officials to implement better accommodations for those that are homeless. We are looking for volunteers that have experience with web design or would like to help build the map. Those who have experience with WordPress and/or Elementary are particularly encouraged to reach out.
