Last summer students from biochemistry, biology, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences and psychology embarked on an adventure to sail through the Northwest Passage.
This year also commemorates the 500-year anniversary of the Magellan expedition around the world. Spain, through its Spanish embassies, wants to promote this important date in the world’s history; as a result, we have organized this kick-off event at the Instituto Cervantes.
Please join us and celebrate the accomplishments of our students. This is a great opportunity for us to merge science, culture and society from UIC with partnerships with global networks promoting Hispanic culture.
During the first hour, we will talk about ocean explorations, introduce the UIC NPP explorer (Frances Crable) and show some footage leading to the documentary (Dave Clark) and the modern ocean frontiers, including the opportunities for involving citizen scientists in ocean research (Andrew King, a faculty affiliate at UIC). The presentations are followed by a networking event over tapas, wine, and sangria. The Spanish consulate and other personalities have indicated that they will join us for the event.
