Written by Kirsten Greenridge, and directed by Tyrone Phillips (Artistic Director of Definition Theatre), The Luck of the Irish explores themes of integration, tolerance and ghost-buying.
Inspired by her grandparents' efforts to buy a house in a white neighborhood, Greenridge's piece explores what happens when an upwardly mobile African-American couple wants to buy a home in an all-white neighborhood in 1950s Boston. To achieve their dream the family pays a struggling Irish family to “ghost-buy” a house on their behalf. Fifty years later, the Irish family wants “their” house back. Moving across two eras, The Luck of the Irish delves into racial and social issues as well as the universal longing for home.
Come out and support your UIC artist peers as they bring to life this timeless tale.
