UIC nominates one outstanding senior each year for the Lincoln Academy Student Laureate award. One student will be selected and honored in Springfield in November. According to Academy materials, "In the spirit of Lincoln, Student Laureates are honored for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities."
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Graduating in December 2019 or May of 2020
- Strong academic, leadership, service, and involvement history at UIC.
- Submit a completed application, including at least 1 letter of recommendation, by the deadline
To apply:
- Complete your SnAP General Application to access the application (https://uic.academicworks.com/users/sign_in)
- Respond to 1 essay question in SnAP: Please write a brief statement explaining your curricular and extra-curricular activities. Include how you feel you have made a contribution to UIC.
- Attach an updated resume or CV
- The name(s) and email(s) of at least 1 recommender (please double-check the email address for accuracy). References must be received by the deadline. The system will automatically send your recommender(s) an email, but please ask your reference writer(s) as soon as possible so they know the request is coming.
Strong candidates tend to possess the following criteria:
- Involved in curricular and extra-curricular activities
- Have a record of leadership
- Made a contribution to UIC as an undergraduate
- Strong academic record
The Lincoln Academy Student Laureate receives the following:
- The Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Medallion
- A certificate of achievement, and
- The Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award in the amount of $1,000
