FAQ:
- What makes a strong application?
- Generally, strong applicants make a clear, concise case for why they would benefit from this award.
- These applications generally are realistic (keeping in mind that this is a 1-semester award) and specific (stating what the tuition award will allow them to do in the funded semester).
- Strong applications are generally free of grammar, spelling, and other errors, and are accurate and up-to-date (including the responses to the SnAP General Application short-answer questions). Do consider visiting the Writing Center (https://writingcenter.uic.edu/) for assistance, or asking a trusted person to review your application prior to the deadline.
- I have a 4.0 GPA. Does that mean I will get a tuition award?
- Maybe! This scholarship is awarded based on the overall quality of the application and its competitiveness with other applications in the same pool.
- The Committee considers both merit and need along with the quality of the written responses. GPA is an aspect of merit, but we consider many factors in selecting recipients.
- Will this award pay for fees, housing, books, or other expenses?
- This award is limited to UIC in-state tuition and differential (if applicable). Recipients may earn a full or partial award.
- The amount you are eligible for is determined by Financial Aid, based on other aid that you receive.
- I’m an out-of-state/international student. Can I apply for this tuition award?
- Yes! Although the value of the award is capped at in-state tuition and differential, all students who meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply.
- What does good standing with the Honors College refer to?
- Students in good standing meet the Honors College GPA requirement (minimum 3.4 UIC GPA) and do not have a DFR for HON 222 or HON 322 in the previous academic year.
- If you are unsure of your status, contact your Honors College Advisor. You can look up your advisor’s contact information by logging into HARS: https://apps.honors.uic.edu/HARS/.
- Can I renew this scholarship?
- No, this is a one-time, one-semester award.
- You are welcome to reapply for a future semester, but there is no guarantee that you will receive the award multiple times.
