UIC hosts their annual Day of Service this year on Saturday, April 13, 2019. Project Description:
UCAN Academy-Grand is a therapeutic day school located on the west side of Chicago. Students who have fallen behind academically due to emotional, behavioral or other psychological challenges attend this school, mostly due to trauma.
The students who attend this school often act out their frustrations, which results in damage to the walls and property.
This project will involve facility improvements such as painting walls, but may also include picking up trash around the school, painting an exterior fence, planting plants in outdoor planters, trimming trees. By improving the aesthetics of the property, the students are reminded that they deserve second chances and that people have not given up on them.
Date and time: Saturday, April 13, 9am-2pm
Location: 3110 W. Grand Avenue, Chicago, IL 60622
Please wear old clothes for painting; you will likely get paint on them. All supplies will be provided.
Lunch will be provided and will consist of sandwiches, fruit, cookies, chips, and sparkling water.
Registration closes on Monday, April 8, or when space is full, so sign up now!
