via the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement:
Taking place the first Monday of each month, in partnership with multiple campus partners, this regular service opportunity allows students to give back once a month. This enables students who don't have the time or resources to serve in other ways to still contribute to community organizations. Projects are usually hands-on and involve making something.
Our next event is February 15th from 11am-1pm.
This specific opportunity in February will be a project students can participate safely, remotely, at home virtually via a zoom link sent out upon registration. No supplies needed, all will be provided on behalf of SLCE.
For this month, students will be working with UCAN, a community partner of UIC who provides youth development and advocacy for youth who are in the care of the state child welfare system and youth who have been removed from their homes for reasons of abuse or neglect. They also work with the families of these children to enhance the full spectrum of support.
During the virtual event, students will work to help make care packages for youth and their teachers in house, by creating cards at home either physically with materials and mailing them into UCAN (or a no-contact drop off), or digitally make cards to send online. Students will also be making journal prompts/ideas with guidance from the Community Partner to be added in the care packages.
Zoom link will be sent out one week prior to the event, once you have registered. Please email slce@uic.edu with any questions!
** This event will be a service project held virtually, off-campus.
Register by February 8th! https://uic.galaxydigital.com/need/detail/?need_id=548670
