The Subcommittee on Disabled Student Experiences (SDSE) is a student-led, student-focused sub-group of the larger Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities (CCSPD). Our focus is on identifying barriers to disabled student success on UIC’s campus and addressing them through action and advocacy. All students with disabilities, mental illnesses, chronic illnesses, et cetera and allies are welcome to join!
In the past, the SDSE has…
—led accessible study sessions for disabled and chronically ill students
— hosted social events for disabled students and allies
— administered surveys to gauge student experiences on campus
—been a leader in the movement to launch UIC’s Disability Cultural Center
—and more!
We’ll be hosting the second meeting of the year this Friday, October 5th, from 2-3pm. Disabled students and allies, bring your lunch to the Disability Cultural Center (1st floor Daley Library) and join us! We’ll be doing some planning for this year, including for our accessibility audit of UIC’s campus.
If you’re interested in being a part of this group, but can’t make the event, e-mail Zoie (zsheet2@uic.edu) to join the SDSE listserv! Hope to see you there!
