Office Assistant – Undergraduate
This position is offered in the Women’s Leadership & Resource Center (WLRC), which is one of the seven Cultural Centers for Understanding and Social Change (CCUSC) at University of Illinois at Chicago. The center runs the Campus Advocacy Network (CAN), a program that provides advocacy and crisis support for survivors of interpersonal violence as well as anti-violence education for the campus.
We are especially interested in students who have 1) experience or an interest in working in one of the cultural centers, and/or 2) are interested in working on programs and in an environment concerned with feminism and social justice.
Job Duties
General Office Tasks
- Answer telephone lines, re-direct callers to appropriate staff person or take detailed messages;
- Organizing and re-stocking office materials;
- Make copies, scan, fax documents;
- Assist staff in administrative duties
- Assist with preparation and execution of short- and long-term projects;
- Collect and distribute mail
- Assist with maintenance of office (e.g. light cleaning, watering plants, maintaining the office suite and programming room, etc.)
Program Support
- Assist with setting up event space – in center as well as off-site
- Assemble publicity materials, sign-in sheets and evaluation forms for each event
- Set up information table
- Input data from program evaluations
- Update listserv/mailing lists weekly
Education and Outreach
- Organize packets with materials for distribution on campus
- Distribute fliers of programs in designated areas on campus
- Table at campus-wide events (e.g. Marketplace, etc.) as representative of WLRC and Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change (CCUSC);
- Keep track of publicity materials and making sure they are re-stocked as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Undergraduate student;
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills;
- Basic skills in Microsoft Word & Excel, Google Drive and social media;
- Social justice-minded with strong interest in issues that affect women, trans, and gender non-conforming individuals;
- Mindful of level of discretion needed in our office for safety and privacy of clients
Preferred
Bonus
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator and/or InDesign
Hours/Days
15-20 hours per week.
Must be available most weekdays starting at 10:00am
